A 12-member athletic team has departed for The Bahamas to compete in this year’s CARIFTA Games, and Sports Minister Myron Walwyn was present for the send-off.

They departed the territory Thursday morning ahead of the four-day competition that starts tomorrow (March 30).

“I know that the entire Virgin Islands is supporting them all the way and I am certainly looking forward to each of them bringing home medals,” said Walwyn in a post on social media.

The national CARIFTA team comprises under-17 athletes Xiomara Malone, Akrisa Eristee, Zara Brown, Malik John and Jaleel Croal; as well as under-20 athletes Beyonce Defreitas, Arianna Hayde, Akira Phillip, Rikkoi Brathwaite, Joshua Hill, and Diamante and Djimon Gumbs.

They are expected to compete in various sporting disciplines, including the Discus and Javelin throw, the 200 and 400-metre events, as well as the Long, and High Jump events.
