UPDATE ON BLACKOUT: Power restoration begins across sections of BVI
Power has been restored to sections of the territory since the major outage on several islands Thursday morning.
The extent to which power has been restored is not immediately clear. BVI News can, however, confirm restoration in a number of areas on the main island of Tortola.
Up to press time, efforts to contact management of the BVI Electricity Corporation for a comprehensive update were unsuccessful.

Residents across the British Virgin Islands, except Anegada which has an independent power station, are without electricity.
This major power outage happened minutes before 10 am on Thursday.
Deputy General Manager of the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC), Henry Creque, said the cause of the outage is not immediately clear.
“We’re now investigating the problem and trying to restore as many areas as we can as quickly as possible,” he told BVI News.
The problem developed at the Pockwood Pond-based Wilfred Smith Power Station, which supplies electricity to roughly a dozen islands.
Affected areas and islands include Jost Van Dyke, Frenchman’s Cay, Little Thatch, Beef Island, Great Camanoe, Buck Island, Scrub Island, Marina Cay, Saba Rock, Tortola and Virgin Gorda.
BVI News will provide further details when it becomes available.

Just when I was thinking it was a long time since our last power cut…
Do the bozos running the electricity supply think this is normal?
Let’s get people in who can run the plant.
Was already no power last night.
Unbelievable. In this time and age still not using renewable energy sources given to us for free by mother nature!!!
That wouldnt help if it was a distribution problem.
It’s ok, our Premier and Finance Minister must know how to fix the problem. While we are in the dark (literally) he is in the UK offerering to save the Queen and country based on his “close ties to Africa and China.”
I noticed that too!
