Residents in the British Virgin Islands will be given a chance to have their say on how the redesigned Joseph Reynold O’Neal Botanic Gardens should take shape.

This will be done through a public forum, a government-commissioned press release has said.

“Following which, a final plan, design and budget will be presented to the public incorporating the public submissions and regional and international best practices for implementation,” the release further indicated.

The meeting will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Park II on July 12 between 8:30 am and 5:30 p.m.

Officials from the National Parks Trust of the Virgin Islands along with other stakeholders will make presentations at the event. Their presentations will focus on the design phase of the undertaking.

“These include the conservation goals and the role of the botanic gardens, climate change resilient construction, green/energy efficiency and solar power, eco-tourism and botanic garden trends and best practices,” the release informed.

Work on restoring the park commenced last year.

Following the 2017 category five hurricanes, the garden, like the rest of the British Virgin Islands, sustained considerable damage.

The garden was declared a National Park in 1979.

Have a say for what? To plant some trees? Everything does not require public input. If so we did we elect you?

Now, if they didnot ask for the public input, you would be one of the first to start B***hing about it. FYI,it is not about just planting trees, there are a abundance of beautiful trees, plants and flowers that can be added to the decor. Have you ever seen what a Botanical Garden looks like Strupes?

The public has not the slightest idea about botanical gardens.

You might as well ask them how to design the power station

Some times people have to lead.

Why this level of harsh. Please make a chill date, visit the park, breathe and calm down.

The Botanic Garden is located in a somewhat remote and unpopular part of Road Town for visitors. Perhaps a 2nd botanical garden at the current QE II park in western Road Town below McNamara should be considered along with a larger parking lot.

Do Not Relocate it!!! It is just good where it is!!! gives an additional location to visit. A beautiful Botanic Gardens\ will make the remote and unpopular current, and beautiful to visit. No place in The Road Town/Lower Estate is remote. I suggest area Gardens for Butterflies. QEII Park is just fine. Its a Breathe of Fresh Air!! Just need some restoration work. Retired I suggest that you take some early morning or afternoon walks in the QEII Park. Its just Wonderful.

    Great!

I think input from the community is neccessary!

..Nicely paved walking paths, beautiful seating areas, some exotic and local flora and fauna, and a few local ones would be nice..

I’m not an expert in the placement of flora and fauna in confined spaces, so I will yield to the expert advice of the local landscaping architects.

There are many gardeners in the BVI who, I’m sure, would love to be involved. Asking for our input is a lovely way to go about this. Thank you for asking us!

Unfortunately, I am in Canada for a while and will not be able to attend but when I get home, if there is any type of public committee being established that is open to new members, I would certainly join.
