BREAKING: BVI flights disrupted as US imposes airspace restrictions
The BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) has issued an advisory warning that flights to and from the territory may be disrupted due to regional airspace restrictions imposed by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The restrictions affect US-registered aircraft and US-based airlines operating in the Caribbean.
As part of the disruption, US airlines have canceled dozens of flights to airports in Puerto Rico, highlighting the wider regional impact.
“As a result, flight operations to and from the Virgin Islands may be subject to delays, diversions, rescheduling, or cancellations, depending on individual airline routing and operational decisions,” BVIAA said in a statement Saturday morning, January 3.
The BVIAA said the restrictions are outside of its control and are being managed directly by the affected airlines.
Travellers, in the meantime, are urged to contact their airline for the latest flight information and to confirm schedules before heading to the airport, as changes may occur with little notice.
The Airports Authority said it remains in close contact with airline partners and relevant aviation stakeholders and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
Meanwhile, it is not yet clear how long the disruptions will last.
The FAA said in an emergency notice issued around 1am on Saturday that it is temporarily prohibiting US carriers from operating flights near Venezuela and in some areas of the Caribbean amid reports of “military activity” in Caracas, citing potential flight risks in the region.

When crazy imperialists rule, this is the result the wotrld will get.
Most of the vebezuelians around the world and in Venezuela(the ones not afraid of retribution) are celebrating . Chavez and Maduro riuned the country. How do you get 8 million of mostly professionals to leave and cause a brain drain ? It doesn’t work .Whether you are a trump supporter or not this was the right move.
Caribbean Airlines had the right idea.. https://bvinews.com/caribbean-airlines-to-withdraw-from-bvi-and-puerto-rico/
Get with the times folks!
The same imperial ist , is where yoir chikdren and future generations go tio be educated and never return.
The same imperialist is so welcoming that you have a “brain drain” in your country and when outsiders come in and get belongers status, you treat them like crap because the set their priorities straight
The same imperialist are the ones who give status to your badies when you birth them in St Thomas and Puerto Rico with equal rights and privileges
Stop being ungrateful. What did the Communist Venezuela do for your country and you?
Where is the food security yielding returns?
If we cannot get to import water, veget, providions, poultry where will we get it?
We are fighting independence as Eileen Parsons would say… We do not have a hole of potato to feed our family
If anyone has an emergency health issue- the hospital is not equipped to deal with it
We want independence?
Wake up BVI we have our focus on the wrong priorities
This is raw,, unvarnished crusading, ie, attacking a sovereign country, kidnapped its leader(s) , take control of its resources, force it to pay for being attacked, etc. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! This is a mirage. It is about supposed fentanyl smuggling into the US, Narco drug traffickers, gangs, etc.The reality is it is about Venezuelan proven oil reserve.
Oil is the new gold and who control oil runs things globally. It is about MIGHT IS RIGHT. It is about gaining control, power, influence,,etc, over weaker countries to colonize and exploit their land,,labor, resources. The unequal power of powerful versus the weak creates the opportunity for exploiting their land weaker, less powerful countries. It is a battle of developed countries over developing countries.
Oil is the new gold ( black gold); many conflicts have been fought and are being fought over oil. The aim and goal of the US is to take control of Venezuelan oip; its vast oil reserve. A lot of smoke screens have been set off to create a false narrative. The goal is create opportunities for friends at major oil companies to tap into the processing of oil. Congress is useless,, permitting Trump to do whatever he wants with no pushback, abdicating their responsibility; he is the President, leader of the Senate, leader of the House of Representatives, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Court. The US has three branches of government,,ie, the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial with checks and balances to control each other. Today, though there is only one branch it seems, ie,, the Executive Branch, for the other two branches are useless as a tit on a boar hog. The Legislative and Judicial Branches have no pride, no shame, no stones; they are an embarrassment to the governing process. History will be unkind to them for their poor performance during this time, wiltering like a wet noodle.
The UN too is weak and useless;,it is a paper tiger with its undemocratic practices,,ie, Security Council. Any permanent member of the Security Council can veto any action taken by a majority on the Council . Minoratarian rules over majoritarian.. The UN needs some serious restructuring, retransformation, etc. Currently, it is a BIG joke like a tit on a boar.
Where was all of this analysis when President Maduro had troops positioned along the border he shares with Guyana? A CARICOM member stood on the brink of invasion, yet what we heard amounted to little more than muted responses and symbolic rebuttals—no substantive action. And that was considered acceptable?
This reflexive, selective outrage we display toward actions taken by Western nations must come to an end. The habit of reacting automatically—particularly when those nations are predominantly white—does not reflect principled analysis; it reflects bias. In this case, the decision taken was the correct one. President Maduro does not deserve a pass simply because he is perceived as belonging to a historically marginalised group.
And to those who believe they share some natural affinity or compatibility with authoritarian actors abroad because they view “the white man” as a common adversary, it is time for a dose of realism, these actors such as Maduro do not respect you in most cases they are equally racist if not more so . Do you think he is doing anything for blacks in venezuela ? Do Blacks in Cuba have any greater rights than blacks in the U.S. I think not.
you need to read world news a little bit more, as the Royal Navy sent a Destroyer when Maduro sent his troops to the border and then they withdrew, the UK stepped up.
@Stealth, “ Congress is useless,, permitting Trump to do whatever he wants with no pushback, abdicating their responsibility; he is the President, leader of the Senate, leader of the House of Representatives, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Court. ” if it were not so serious, it would be funny, a joke.
Ha ha ha.
And the conversation here is always about the UK taking control and Independence.
Welcome to Active Imperialism from the USA.
AI is taking over already.
most people are easily fooled
You are biased. Had they wanted to invade guyana they would have done it.
Maduro was voted out of office by the people but would not relinquish control. The arrest of Maduro is justified just as the arrest of Noriega of Panama, Sadam Hussain in Iraq, and a host of other dictators that have fled their countries for asylum. Maduro was offered asylum but refused the offers. THe country was a great country but was ruined by Chavez and Maduro. Hopefully, this move will reinstate the country to a better life for all it’s citizens.
@Edward, I don’t support DT by passing congress. However, I agree Maduro and eventually his entire administration needed and needs to be removed.
I am hoping, if only for a brief period, this action brings a slow down in crime and drugs and illegal guns shipment in the BVI. If it’s long lasting maybe home prices in the bvi will get to some level of affordability for everday working families. Most fail to realize that there was/is a direct correlation between the rise in drug trading thru the bvi and other caribbean nations and the rise in home prices as well as other goods abd services. The economy has been propped up artificial by these illegal activities..some cunningly turned proceeds into legit business ventures, but at what price to families who lost children to death, prison, or drug addiction.
Yes, we know the raid is also about the oil reserves, but i am looking for the indirect benefit of the raid to the bvi also.
It only gets worse.
it only gets worse
Antigua got to take back all it’s runaways from the states to get back visa status.
