BREAKING NEWS: Gunshot victim dies in hospital

A relative of the man reportedly shot has posted this photo on social media, identifying him as the victim, Shaun Richards

The man who was shot and wounded in the Long Look area of Tortola on Saturday night, Shaun Richards, has died.

He passed away this evening at Peebles Hospital.

Earlier today, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) stated that the gunshot victim was in critical condition.

Richards was outside a home in Long Look on Saturday night, when a man walked up to him, fired several shots, and fled in the direction of the Stickett.

In a comment on the incident, one of Richards’ relatives had posted on social media: “He (Richards) was shot to the head and other parts of the body… He lose a lot of blood.. About six shots [were] fired.”

Richards has become at least the fifth person to be murdered in the British Virgin Islands since the start of the year.

The other murder victims are Alston Penn, Franklyn Fahie, Jefferson Joseph, and Ashburn Dawson. The gun was the weapon of choice in all but one of the cases.

Meanwhile, throughout last year, a total of four murders were recorded in the Territory.
