Brin leaving CCT for managerial post at BVI-IAC

Long-serving marketer in the telecoms industry, Janette Brin, has been appointed Manager at the British Virgin Islands International Arbitration Centre (BVI-IAC).

The BVIslander has been the Marketing and Public Relations Manager at telecommunications company CCT for some four years. She previously held a similar post at LIME, which has been re-branded Flow.

Brin, who holds a bachelor’s degree and a master of business administration degree in marketing, told BVI News Online that she was recommended for the new job.

“It wasn’t something that I applied for; it’s something that came to me,” she said. “I am always excited about a new career opportunity to learn and grow and develop my talents.”

Brin said this is her final week at CCT.

“I have a great opportunity at the BVI Arbitration Centre; so I am leaving [CCT] to take on that. It’s been a great learning experience at CCT – great time with wonderful people who I will still continue to work with in different capacities.”

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of the BVI-IAC Francois Lassalle described Brin as the right person for the job.

“She has extremely relevant experience, is hard working, personable, etcetera. She simply was the right candidate for the IAC, and I am delighted she felt it was the right next step for her. I am excited to start working with her,” said the BVI-IAC boss.

He continued: “Obviously, the fact that Janette is a BVIslander is great because the Centre wants to add value to the community, and would prefer to hire locally. Ultimately, for most roles, there is enough talent in the BVI not to have to go abroad. There may be some roles in the future that require a skill-set that doesn’t exist yet in the BVI (arbitration-specific profiles for instance). But I am hopeful that, with all the work the centre is planning to do to educate and coach people locally, we will develop such skill-sets in due course.”

The BVI-IAC is an independent statutory body, originally funded by the Government which was launched late last year to meet the demands of the international business community for neutral and impartial dispute resolution. It recently boasted about having an approximate 190-member panel of arbitrators from ‘all over the world’. The centre is located in the Ashley Ritter Building near Wickham’s Cay II.
