The British Virgin Islands archery team collected a total of 13 medals inclusive of seven gold, five silvers and one bronze in the recently concluded Caribbean Developmental Championships in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

Amongst the medalist were Jaylyn Frett, K’Mouv Pickering, K’Maury Pickering, Jahmeel Jones, Kendise Brewley, Kasadiyah Baird and Jaydian Smith.

In the Recurve category, Frett won gold in the Women’s Qualifications, the Women’s Gold Medal match and a silver medal in the Mixed Team Match.

In the Compound Cadet Men, K’Mouv Pickering copped silver in the Qualifications and Gold Medal matches and a bronze in the Mixed Team Match.

K’Maury Pickering won gold in the Compound Cub Men, Jones also received a gold in the Qualifications and Brewley walked away with gold in the Compound Cub Women Qualifications.

The Exceptional Recurve Cub Women category saw Baird topping the Qualifications with a gold while teammate Smith settled for silver but Smith came back to take the gold in the Gold Medal Match while Baird collected silver.

President of the Virgin Islands Archery Association and Head Coach of the team Patrick Smith said he was extremely pleased with the team’s overall performance and hoped that the results attract more youngsters to the sport.

“They handled the pressure very well considering it was their first tournament. This event was created to expose the kids to a real tournament scenario without the event of it being a ranking tournament and it was a success,” President Smith said.

“Hopefully we’ll get more kids wanting to come out and try the sport. We are actually trying to push a sports programme and we are supposed to meet with some members of the Government to put some initiatives together to get the sport to children in Anegada, Virgin Gorda and Jos Van Dyke,” he added.

More than 160 athletes registered for this year’s tournament. Participating countries included Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, the Dominican Republic and a numbe of y others.

      STRUPE THINKING MAKE STRUPE COMMENTS

If you bothered to look into the ACTUAL statistics of the DR and deaths of tourists, you would see this year is on par with most other years and actually LESS THAN SOME YEARS. just because it gets REPORTED MORE FREQUENTLY THIS YEAR doesn’t mean anything about if it IS HAPPENING MORE THIS YEAR. IT ISNT. STOP SPREADING BAD INFO. WORRY ABOUT YOUR OWN PROBLEMS IN BVI

Stupid people say strupe. If you cant spell the word stupid use a dictionary instead of creating your own words. Oxford you are not. Dont be an idiot, people are vomiting and experiencing different ailments. If it happened last year or the year before at the same rate it would have gotten the same publicity especially if US tourist were involved.

      • @CW says:

The FBI and the State Department is investigating because the people that died families and doctors in the US is not buying that everyone died from heart failure.

    • Just saying says:

Could be the drinks from the bar. Almost if not all the cases you hear of the people got drinks at the bar before their demise.
