PRESS RELEASE: The British Virgin Islands (BVI) participated in a simulation exercise to test their tsunami response strategies.

The exercise entitled ‘Carib Wave 18’ (Caribbean Wave 18) took place today Thursday, March 15.

Caribbean Wave 18 provided an opportunity for the territory to improve the effectiveness of its tsunami warning system while maintaining and promoting tsunami preparedness.

As part of this simulation, notification was done by emergency siren, loud hailers, social media and messages disseminated by cell providers and local media.

The Department of Disaster Management would like to thank you all who participated in and supported today’s earthquake/tsunami exercise.

We appreciate your commitment to promoting and encouraging hazard preparedness in the territory.

We also encourage you to complete our ‘CARIBE WAVE’ feedback survey which will help us better our services and also inform our general communication decisions and practices.

  1. Sirens?? says:

I did not hear any of the sirens and I was in Road Town. Is DDM going to solicit comments from the public to judge the effectiveness of this exercise?
I only received notice from a text message from FLOW. I would suggest that if it is a test that the text message say THIS IS A TEST EXERCISE. IT IS ONLY A TEST EXERCISE. Rather than “EXERCISE EXERCISE”…that is not so effective

    • Shame says:

The siren was heard at Baugher’s bay on the hill where Hon Caines lives, so how you didn’t hear it in road town?

  2. Waste of Money says:

Premier you need to give me the People’s New Ride that you do not want to drive in. I see you still driving in that Grey Lexus behind you. It seems to me that you are playing games.

Well give the people back the ride so we can put a different plate on it and bring in money at the same time. Obviously you too scared of a little talk about you so you still hiding in that Grey Lexus.

Give the People back their ride so it catch dust no longer just sitting.
