BVI Full Moon Party in Puerto Rico kickstarts tourism season
The BVI Tourist Board & Film Commission (BVITBFC) has launched its Puerto Rico outreach with a Full Moon Party, an event attended by Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley, as officials seek to promote the territory ahead of the upcoming tourism season.
The event, held on May 2 at Vivo Beach Club in Carolina, marked what organisers described as the official start of the BVI tourism season in the Puerto Rican market.
According to information released, the initiative forms part of efforts to attract visitors from Puerto Rico while also building momentum for the annual Christmas in July celebration scheduled for later this year.
Speaking at the event, Dr Wheatley said the relationship between the BVI and Puerto Rico remains strong and mutually supportive.
“It’s my honour and my privilege to be here with you this evening. I have come all the way from Tortola right here to Puerto Rico,” he said.
“In the BVI, we love Puerto Rico. We love Puerto Rico, and we know Puerto Rico loves us right back,” he added.
The Premier also pointed to the growth of the territory’s signature summer event, noting its increasing scale and attendance.
“Every year, Christmas in July has been going bigger and bigger and bigger. And the last Christmas in July was the biggest Christmas in July we’ve ever had,” he said.
“We had thousands of people on the beach. We had a big party. It was fantastic,” he added.
The Full Moon Party showcased elements of BVI culture, including music, hospitality and cuisine, as organisers sought to present the territory as a destination for both maritime and land-based tourism.
The Christmas in July celebration is expected to attract large numbers of boaters and visitors. The annual event, now in its 14th edition, typically draws hundreds of vessels and thousands of participants from Puerto Rico and the wider region.
The Full Moon Party is part of a series of promotional activities that encourage travel to the Virgin Islands and highlight its attractions for potential visitors.
