BVI Love campaign was a political gimmick — Flax-Charles

Government legislator, Shereen Flax-Charles.

Territorial At-Large Representative, Shereen Flax-Charles, has contended that the Virgin Islands Party’s (VIP) BVILOVE slogan, made popular by former Premier Andrew Fahie, was nothing more than a political stunt.

The BVILOVE brand and campaign was introduced in September, 2020 after the VIP replaced the previous Nature’s Little Secrets slogan formerly used by the BVI Tourist Board in its marketing campaigns. At the time, it was announced that the new slogan was meant to bolster the BVI’s image locally, regionally and abroad by focusing on what makes the BVI a special destination and business jurisdiction.

But Flax-Charles, who is now a candidate with the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM), suggested that the slogan never lived up to its promise. “That BVILOVE that came out in 2020, it was a political gimmick. It wasn’t sincere. It didn’t come from the heart,” she said on the PVIM Solution Time radio programme recently.

The former VIP member was at the time speaking about the level of social cohesion in the territory and reflected on how much better relationships were between the local and expatriate communities when she first arrived. “We need to go back to that time when there was really true love in the BVI,” Flax-Charles urged.

“There are people that have come here to this country and have embraced our culture, have embraced our people, and there are a lot of our people who have embraced these people because they realise that they have helped us to get us to where we are today,” Flax-Charles explained.

The first-term lawmaker shared a story about her mother’s selflessness when her family first arrived in the territory from Antigua and commented about the feedback she received from the public, commending her for sharing about her mother’s kindness in the House of Assembly recently.

“The fact that these people reached out and understood what it means to come from another country and to be able to contribute… You know, it was so surprising that I saw something come out trying to twist it and to talk about BVILOVE. There was love back then,” she argued.

And,specifically, what did your mother contribute to these VI Ms Fkax
I dare say Madam your mother and others like her got and continue to get more than what they give. Problem is that gratitude is a profanity to you and most of your ilk. Main reasons why you become despised drifters. No gratitude for their own country’s enormous gifts and Blessings so prosperity eludes and curse takes charge.
I have yet to hear you on your public whipping post give gratitude these VI.
Nobody send call you or your Mother and what VIslanders have (land house car education food) they had or could have before your arrival and without your ungrateful whining presence.

  13. Gimmicks? says:

Maybe a gimmick, but it is DEFINITELY a bad advertising campaign. It is something a 10th grade class might come up with!
Hire a REAL advertising agency. There is real money riding on this. We need to stop this amateur hour!
All this stuff you are talking about may be real, but it is so inside baseball that nobody outside of people who live in the BVI would understand any of this. We need a campaign that brings people OUTSIDE the BVI here to come on vacation. Hire a New York city ad agency to come up with an idea that will work in the USA (that’s where 90% of the tourist come from).

I like the slogan. Nothing is wrong with it except this woman and her sister who was over Tourist Board feel as if nothing is good in tourism unless they agree and sanction it. They seem to think they alone know about tourism.

Who are these back benchers LISTENING to????

IF they don’t want another NDP government that spends the next 6 years telling us we don’t know what we want and busting the budget while maintaining zero infrastructure (how do they get away with that?), these VIP back benchers need to STFU!!!!!

  22. Finally... says:

I listened to Sherine dramatic speech about her mother never having a Antigua passport.
Hmmmmm. Which brings me to wonder: did she come here illegally?

  24. Crabby BVISLANDERS says:

I can testify that that was a gimmick and has NEVER existed. BVISLANDERS can’t even love each other, how can they share love??? They greedy as hell and thrive in tearing down each other, blocking each other from rising, backstabbing each other and envying each other. A BUNCH OF CRABS IN A BUCKET. If they see one climbing up the bucket, they drag him right back to the bottom. That is what they are best at.

And don’t NOBODY come on here to say that this is not true, because it IS TRUE!!!!!!!!! BUNCH OF SMALL ISLAND IDIOTS.

  25. Bitter Pill says:

There is so much love in the BVI, it emanates from the funnels at the Pockwood Pond incinerator. One can smell it flowing through Road Town into the harbor and one can see it scattered along the lovingly cared for roads. When a visitor arrives they are so overwhelmed by BVILove many choose never to return. Alas, the shining beacon for BVILove has to be the jewel in the crown of the mighty loveable Investment sClub: Prospect Reef. This is one of those rare instances where a name is simultaneously ironic and paradoxical. Perhaps it is cursed, perhaps it too collapsed under the overbearing weight of BVILove!

  26. Lol says:

So happy you ain’t get back in. Tired seeing hearing your meaningless words. Go find something else to do now.
