BVI not clear yet, outer bands of Dorian could still affect us, residents advised

Governor Augustus Jaspert

Governor Augustus Jaspert is advising residents to remain on alert and brace for stormy weather because Tropical Storm Dorian is still expected to affect the BVI even though forecasters said the weather system will pass south of the territory.

“It may be tempting to consider this forecast as a miss, or a relief. But, even if Dorian does not pass over the territory directly, I would remind all residents that the BVI may still see impacts from this system,” Governor Jaspert said in a public statement issued Monday evening.

He gave this advisory while noting that weather experts typically focus on the centre of storms when making forecasts. Notwithstanding the centre, Governor Jaspert said the outer bands of a weather system can still be very dangerous.

“Already, Dorian’s winds can be felt up to 45 miles from its centre. If it strengthens as expected, that distance would likely increase,” Governor Jaspert reasoned.

He has, therefore, urged residents to continue to their preparations ahead of Dorian, whose effects the BVI is expected to begin feeling later today, Tuesday, August 27.

He said preparations should include properly storing important documents, resupplying essential goods, checking on emergency stores, and reviewing family and business emergency plans.

“I would especially encourage residents to make time today to inspect their properties, homes and businesses to ensure that if there are any needed preparation repairs or clearing up of debris to be done, that they will have the time to do them before Tuesday evening,” Governor Jaspert said.

High probability more storms will follow Dorian

He also warned of the high probability of other tropical storms developing in the region after Dorian passes.

He said the probability is higher since the coming month is considered to be the most active parts of the Atlantic Hurricane Season.

“Historically speaking, September, which is just a few days away, brings the warmest sea surface temperatures and with it, the most storms when compared to other months in the season,” the Governor explained.

I concur with you whole heartedly that today should have been half day. The Governor is saying take time out to prepare, but how are we to do so and its not officialy been announced. Some employers are not going to give their employees time off to do so. What if the storm shifts towards us during the night. Many would not be prepared because they have not been given the time off to prepare for the coming storm and could prove disastrous. Better to prepare and than repent. An ounce of prevention is better than a whole pound of cure. Its better to be proactive than reactive.

So Governor if you don’t make the call the Territory will blame you.

This IS the announcement clown. Why should employees get time off when they should have been prepared for storms already? They have storm prep at their work and get paid to be there. Typical STRUPE THINKING that the government should give you a half day off because you didn’t learn from Irma and have your plan in place. You just want to blame somebody else for your lack of response.

That some of you have to show so much ignorance. Last week when I heard about this storm I started preparing for it.Sorry to say it but some of you people is only good at talking S**t with no substance.

Your view is totally biased, one sided and not thought out.

For example, if HOA members alloted themselves time off to make preparations, why should not the general public?

Did they not, according to CW, ” learn from Irma and have their plan in place” also? Obviously not. But the average employee, according to your twisted thinking, was suppose to.

Not everyone has the resources and time readily available to carry out storm preparations. To suggest otherwise is unrealistic and utterly unaware most of human conditions.

Here we go again with the foolishness. Come on now, since last week word about a storm might be heading this way.The ones that is not prepared, oh well, that’s on them. I made sure this past Weekend I got water, emergency stuff and non perishable foods ready just in case. You grown folks need to start taking responsibility and handle your S”t rather than using the blame defense.

As we see above, people cry when he makes an announcement. People cry when he doesn’t. Typical STRUPE COMMENT from yet another person not doing anything to help yet tearing others down that are doing their jobs. Grow up STRUPE, or let the grown folks talk while you play house.
