BVI partners with UNDP to establish local office

The government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have partnered to establish a local project office to achieve development objectives and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Premier Andrew Fahie said the office was established following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two parties back in November 2020. One of the clauses within that MOU stipulates that the office be created.

“The office is now functioning following the recruitment of Ms Patlian Johnson as the National Coordinator of the UNDP Project Office,” Fahie said at a press conference last Friday.

Johnson’s employment was effective February 1 this year. She will work closely with the government, national institutions, civil society organisations, NGOs, private sector and other partners to lead strategic programme planning and ensure programme coordination and implementation in the BVI

She will also maintain collaborative working relationships among key project partners and project donors through effective communication, consultation, and reporting; and promote communication flow within the office.

Premier Fahie also said the territory’s partnership with the UNDP has been tremendously helpful to progressing the sustainable development of the society.

“The government looks forward to working closely with Ms Johnson and the UNDP as they provide critical support for the implementation of the National Sustainable Development Plan (NSDP) and as we move towards the achievement of the SDGs by 2030,” the Premier added.

Johnson is a public sector specialist with 14 years of experience in development and recovery planning, public financial management and policy development. She was instrumental in developing the Recovery to Development Plan for the British Virgin Islands following the disasters of 2017.

She also coordinated UNDPs support during 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic including administering a grant programme for micro-businesses in the food services industry.

As the former Deputy Financial Secretary for Economic and Fiscal Affairs in the BVI, Johnson developed and led the government’s Public Financial Management (PFM) Reform Programme.

The institutionalisation of fiscal planning and reporting and results-based budgeting and strengthening of financial systems were some of her major achievements.

She holds a Master of Science degree in Economics and Finance from the University of Bristol and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Accounting from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus.

The United Nations and all of their offices and agencies are as useless as they come. We see their true power with the situation with the Ukraine and Russia.

What else was in this Mysterious MOU?
Shouldn’t the public know what the premier signed us on to?
This Government spoke about transparency but there are alot of signing going on behind close doors.
Do people know that all the recent changes in our legislation align with the UN policies. Thier SDGs are not all what it seems.

    More regulation is Stealth Taxation.
The climate change and NDGs are more government control of resources (people), us citizens, we are all resources.

Digital IDs, Digital currency all strategies to make us submissive. Transfer of wealth and all resources.

Nothing to see here folks….do some research on the UN. All the talk about peace and everywhere these people are war and more problems.

I’m impressed and relieved there are people like you in my community. You’re wide awake!

I’ve been waiting on this government to mention UN but it seems I didn’t take into account we would only hear about it after the fact. How naive of me!

Scary times! These people in power have really stepped up the pressure of their agenda since covid. Lol yall forgot about covid huh.

People, the conspiracy “theorists” have proven to be right about everything. I think the count is now 24-0. So many posts I’ve made, and been ridiculed, laughed at only for it to be true 3 months later because CNN say so. I often wonder about you lost souls out there when the reality did finally hit you. So to all you with sense, it’s time to get your supplies stocked, plant FOOD, make sure your home is well secured and protected, get you money out of these banks and keep cash on hand. The cash should still carry locally for a while even though Putin would have killed the dollar soon.

If those in power have just been able to wake up one day and say if you are Russian you’re done, then who the hell are you with you little 10k in the bank. It’s going to be a “choice” of get that digital ID or you’re done.

And sorry to say, I know some will get mad but, we will need those guns soon enough to protect ourselves from over reaching governments who have forgotten their place.

Other wise, don’t look up! Keep your head down and get ready for China, Australia, Austria, New Zealand and Canada… BVI style. Where basic human rights are now a privilege.

  6. Fantastic! says:

Congratulations Ms. Johnson, we know you will do well.
