BVI users report widespread WhatsApp bans and lockouts
Several WhatsApp users with Digicel and Flow numbers have reported account access problems, with some saying they were locked out of personal and business accounts on the messaging app.
Comments across multiple Facebook discussions described repeated notifications about activating WhatsApp on another device, account bans and difficulties restoring access. Several contributors identified the issue with Digicel numbers, while others reported problems involving Flow.
“I received a verification code I never asked for this morning as well. I have a Flow number,” one contributor wrote.
Another said the problem had affected a Digicel work phone since the previous week, while others reported incidents over the weekend and yesterday, October 19.
“It seems to be happening to Digicel numbers because both my Digicel numbers were targeted. I managed to get it back and enable 2-step verification,” a contributor to the first discussion wrote.
The reports do not establish the cause of the incidents or whether they are connected.
Some users said they received repeated verification requests but retained access after dismissing them.
“I had a similar experience but didn’t get locked out. I kept getting a verification code because someone was trying to activate my WhatsApp number on a new phone,” one online user wrote.
Others reported losing access without first receiving a notification. One contributor said she could not retrieve her account despite having two-factor authentication enabled.
Some online users said they faced a six-day wait to reset their accounts, with one reporting that WhatsApp Business was requesting an email address or password they did not recognise.
Another discussion followed a post in which its author reported a permanent ban and alleged that hackers had mirrored her account.
An accompanying screenshot showed a WhatsApp Business notification stating that the account could no longer use the service. It recorded a review request dated October 17, 2026, and said some activity might not have followed the platform’s business terms of service.
Other contributors reported business accounts being affected, including one who said her spouse had lost access to his business contacts.
Some users said they had recovered their accounts after contacting WhatsApp support, while others appealed to Digicel for assistance.
Back in December 2024, the BVI government warned of social engineering attacks targeting WhatsApp users. Its Department of Information Technology advised users to verify senders, avoid sharing passwords, PINs or authorisation codes, and enable multi-factor authentication.
Up to publication time, neither Digicel nor Flow had issued a statement on the reported WhatsApp account bans and access problems.

ALL users should enable two-step verification. People who are victims of this are most likely the ones that have never activated two-step verification on their Whatsapp accounts. I implore EVERYONE, if you have any online account: Banking, emails, or social media, to please enable this option on your devices and accounts. If you do not want to be a victim to identity theft to hackers or any bad actors, taking these measures should help you.
Some of you may never get those numbers back, starting over may be hard, but not impossible. Best of luck, everyone!
I implore every, and anyone who knows a friend or family member who is not tech-savvy to assist them in building a better defense against these bad actors. Go into the security option and activate all the security options available – make sure to place them at peak level.Take them through the steps; be patient. Write all the security information for the user down, or keep it a place where they can find, and access it. Take care!
The government forces us to use these overpriced, backward suppliers operating in a cosy cartel and giving us an internet service that was ranked 3rd worst in the world for service and value.
They have banned Starlink from operating in the BVI. Starlink provides a better, less expensive option in other territories around the world.
But the government denies us access to it.
Why is that?
do like them charter boaters do and go around it
All those roadblocks that the government put up to protect those monopolies with their poor service for high price , technology will soon erase and they will not be able to do anything about it . Their day of reckoning is coming . That includes money tranfers as well
