BVIEC says in-person bill payments continuing as a precaution

The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) has reassured customers that there has been no known breach of their online services, but they are still encouraging in-person payments as a precaution.

In their latest update, BVIEC confirmed that their online systems remain intact while they continue to address the effects of a ransomware attack from weeks ago. Most systems have been restored, except for the online payment platform.

“Our forensic experts have determined that there is no clear sign of a breach in online services. However, we encourage customers to remain vigilant and monitor their credit card charges,” BVIEC stated.

The corporation emphasised its commitment to restoring the online service, ensuring it is fully protected against any potential breach attempts.

In the wake of the ransomware attack, the power company has resorted to estimating payments as customers switch to physical payments. General Manager Dr. Neil Smith previously indicated that their focus is on safeguarding BVIEC’s systems rather than pursuing the individuals behind the attack.

Why would you want to expose your staff to irate customers who have long suffered the inefficiencies of BVIEC?

The next question really should be – what’s BVIEC’s responsibility when it comes to the data breach and the loss of information about clients that may be impacted? If clients are found to have been compromised by BVIEC’s negligence, then what?

    Need answers, not avoidance!

  5. WTF says:

It’s 2024. BVIEC can’t expect us to believe that there isn’t a safe third party system to take payments online.

  6. One Way Or The Other says:

Rather than pursuing the individuals behind the attack we have resorted to estimating payments. So BVIEC and the criminals are working hand in hand to rip off the public. Who say BVI is not a s**t show.

Why the online system is down, please make provision to pay outstanding balance once a second bill has dropped instead of having to pay the full balance. Thanks in advance signed BVI community

    Have a payment kios

  9. Lame precaution says:

More like another excuse than a precaution. There numerous internet platforms for safe bill payment. Why is BVIEC reinventing their wheel???

  10. Overseas Owner says:

I have been paying my bill remotely online for 11 years, always promptly. We live overseas during the summer months. I have been trying to pay my bill online every day for over six weeks now, and call the “help” line everyday with no answer. My neighbor just told me that the BVIEC people left a note at my door saying they are going to disconnect me for non-payment. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!! These people and the government ministers responsible for them are incompetent buffoons. We can only pray that the UK finally steps in and brings order to this third-world banana republic! BTW, good luck keeping track of the $100M loan….lot’s of new offshore homes in Miami and Atlanta for our “public servants”.

    • Thanks says:

I am just a regular employee, but I will reference your comment to the higher ups. Since there was a pattern, I do not agree with disconnection. Hope your meter is accessible though. Will inquire on your behalf. Not sure why the help line is not working, will ask them to check on this as well.

    • Snail mail says:

I mailed my payment after calling customer service for outstanding amount

  11. Really says:

It will help a lot if persons can at least get their bills online, instead of standing in line waiting forever to get service.

Why can’t they open on Saturdays for a few weeks to help with the influx of people that can’t make it during the week.

  13. Nah mehson @BVIEC says:

Ayu is teefing with that estimation bs. Our bill is usually no more 200- 400 in all of 2022 running all the same electronics ac fridge etc and now in 2024 my bill going up a couple hundred every month until 2 months ago it reached 1500!! Then last month 900 make it make sense!!! After that 1500 bill I turn off all of my 2 small ac’s all my 2 small dehumidifier’s been unplugged for anlmost 3 months not being used and the bill was still 900!! And our microwave been broken for 3 years
With the amount of power I actually consume it should be more 200-300. When I was using my acs 24/7 in 200 bill didn’t pass 500 in mid July. You cannot estimate our bills!! The fuel cost is even lower now than it was in 2022. How is our bill 3x the amount!!! This is called teefing at its finest. Shame there won’t be an investigation cuz ayu probably “lost” all our data in the cyber attack. So how about this….

Allow us send a picture of our meter reading in through email…this is 2024 ffs if you don’t trust us doing it then you do it…but we ain paying no estimation fantasy bill fuckery. And when you send us our bill we want a picture of our meter and house paint in the background date stamped and everything proving it’s the correct khw amount consumed.

We will be monitoring all our wattage consumption and we only paying for what we use not what you estimate. And before you thinking bout cutting we lights off for not paying you can take the money you already teef from the last year to pay for our electricity till the end of the year and then we can start fresh come 2025. Wah the people say ayu agree??
