BVIEC selling damaged utility poles at festival grounds

Poles dumped at the grounds.

Utility poles dumped at the festival grounds in Road Town are now being sold.

The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) said the company is putting the items up for sale “in an effort to assist with the cleanup of the festival grounds”.

The grounds are currently littered with poles and wires that were damaged during the September 2017 hurricanes.

While advertising the damaged infrastructure, the BVIEC said: “For a small fee, these poles can be yours”.

The BVIEC further advised that the poles can be used to build decks, verandahs, fencing, and outside furniture.

Cutting and loading services are also being provided on site, the BVIEC said.

Announcement of the sale follows a BVI News report that mountains of the damaged infrastructure were being dumped at the festival grounds.

Authorities are attempting to clear the grounds in time for emancipation festivities which will kick off in August.

Some $700,000 has been budgeted for this year’s festivities, which are being ‘scaled down’ because of the hurricanes.
