Citing overcrowding at the cargo dock at Port Purcell and the need to improve services to the general public, the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) said as of today a new temporary container lot will open at Free Bottom.

It will be located opposite Port Purcell.

The temporary lot will facilitate container cargo only, while the main Port Purcell cargo dock remains the collection point for customers importing Less than Container Load cargo.

Director of the BVI Ports Authority Al Henley said the additional temporary facility will be providing more space for Full Container Loads (FCL) to be quickly picked up.

According to him, there has been an upsurge in imports following Hurricane Irma as well. There is also the regular influx of goods to meet the Christmas season.

“We want the public to know that we hear their concerns and every day we are seeking ways to improve our service and facilitate the volume of goods that are being imported to help rebuild the Territory,” said Henley.

“This new location will allow full containers that are on chassis to be stored in this new location and reduce overcrowding around the dock so that we can better manage cargo coming in for persons who aren’t importing full containers.”

The operational hours are from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm, Mondays to Fridays and from 9:00 am to 3 pm on Saturdays.
