BVIPA seeking new Managing Director | Samuel acting in post

John Samuel

The recruitment process has commenced for a new Managing Director for the BVI Ports Authority.

The post, which was recently advertised, is now temporarily being held by former Virgin Islands Party candidate in the February 2019 General Elections, John Samuel.

Speaking to BVI News recently, Samuel said: “I am the acting interim Managing Director for the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) while the BVIPA goes through the recruitment process.”

“Right now, I am officially in the position for three months,” he added

When asked if he was interested in the post on a full-time basis, Samuel said: “I have an interest overall in seeing the Port through its difficult times and to serve the needs of the people.”

The post of Managing Director was formerly held by Lenius Lendor.

It is not immediately clear whether Lendor resigned or was sacked from the post that he was appointed to in 2018.

Duties of the MD

In the meantime, the successful applicant for the post would be required to plan, develop, control and supervise the general affairs of the port, a vacancy notice for the Ports Authority indicated.

The successful applicant must be able to evaluate “existing Ports and related legislation with a view to refining or improving them by way of amendments from time to time as may be appropriate”.

He/She is also required to ensure that an appropriate system of ‘Management by Objectives’ is instituted and maintained and ensure that an appropriate system designed to provide basic statistical and management information for decision-making is instituted and maintained.

The vacancy notices further said the successful candidate must also ensure that “viable tariffs are devised and presented to the Authority for initiation through the necessary legislative measures, oversee the selection of appropriate equipment for the Ports, and ensure that a sound programme for preventive maintenance of such equipment is introduced and enforced.”

The Managing Director of the government statutory body must also have tertiary-level education and training in management or port operations, 10 years’ experience in a senior management post, among other things.

With Henry’s talent which we need he should have been recruited back at BVIEC if even on contract. But everything is on twine and time.

Apply for the job if you have the skills. The article stated “… is now temporarily being held by John Samuel.”

Mr. Samuel stated “I am the acting interim Managing Director for the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) while the BVIPA goes through the recruitment process.”
“Right now, I am officially in the position for three months..”

Go and apply for the position if you can do it.
