BVI’s financial services get world-class nod in Legal 500 ranking

Twenty-one BVI law firms and 69 legal professionals have been recognised in the 2025 edition of The Legal 500 rankings (Caribbean category), a global benchmark for excellence in legal services.

The Legal 500, founded in 1987, is widely regarded as one of the most authoritative guides to law firms and practitioners across more than 100 countries. Its rankings are based on extensive research and client feedback, measuring expertise, service quality, and reputation within the international legal industry.

The recognition was hailed by BVI Finance as a testament to the strength, professionalism, and innovation of the territory’s legal community — even as the financial services sector continues to face mounting pressure from global powers, particularly the United Kingdom, to increase transparency and compliance standards.

“The recognition by The Legal 500 demonstrates the skill, innovation, and global leadership of BVI practitioners who continue to provide trusted, high-quality counsel to clients around the world,” said Elise Donovan, CEO of BVI Finance.

Donovan noted that the territory’s lawyers and firms play a crucial role in maintaining the BVI’s standing as a leading international business and finance centre, offering world-class expertise in areas such as trusts and private wealth, funds and investment business, corporate governance, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance.

Despite ongoing scrutiny from international watchdogs, local professionals and industry leaders have consistently defended the BVI’s financial services sector as transparent, well-regulated, and compliant with global best practices.

“The BVI remains a trusted, sophisticated jurisdiction that upholds the highest standards of integrity and professionalism,” Donovan added.

One of the biggest financial sectors in the world yet all jobs are in Panama, Hong Kong & Cyprus.

FSC & BVI Gov only cares about money.

We’re suppose to have jobs for every local and expat in the financial service industry if they choose to be there but yet they allow companies to outsource all jobs for more profit and in turn BVI loses! No tax/NHI from all these overseas employees.

Dont let people like Lorna fool ayo.

My pamphlet “Justice in Jeopardy” attempted to shed light on the islands legal services as they stood in the early 1990’s.

Members of the British Virgin Island Bar Association threatened to “sue the shirt off my back” if it went to press and the threat was backed up by a Court Order in 1994 banning the publication.

What did the Legal 500 say about Lorna and our Financial Minister the Premier of the VI, and how the Government of the VI disappeared another $5Million of the peoples onto a bankrupt bank that Lorna was a Director of and was under the watch of the Financial Services Commission of the VI?

What did they say about that?

Good job? Hiding money is what it is all about and they do it really well?

    Move them up the list?
