BVITB appoints Rhodni Skelton as Acting Director of Tourism

Deputy Director of the BVI Tourist Board (BVITB), Rhodni Skelton has been appointed to the post of Acting Director of Tourism at the organisation

The appointment became effective on Monday, May 25 and will run until June 30, at which time the Board expects to select a substantive candidate.

A media release from the BVITB said Skelton will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the operations of the Tourist Board, including its overseas offices and marketing agencies.

“After expressing our thanks to Mrs [Sharon] Flax-Brutus for her years of service, we commenced the application process for the post of Director of Tourism. In keeping with organisational procedures, Mr Skelton, our Deputy Director, has been appointed to act in the position until this process is completed,” Chairwoman of the BVI Tourist Board, Kenisha Sprauve said.

Days after giving six months notice about her intended resignation, the Board decided that Flax-Brutus’ resignation must take immediate effect.

Premier Andrew Fahie, who has since requested a report on the matter, said Flax-Brutus was paid off for the remaining six months she had intended to stay.

You said it. In any organisation, the Deputy always acts in absence of the Head of the Department.

This has also been customary in Government for decades.

A matter of fact, Government has so many acting appointments it’s known as Hollywood.

I guess he has to apply but why not give him the job? Putting someone in over the top of him just seems wrong. Hope it’s not one of those ‘acting’ posts that goes on for years.

While I offer congratulations to Mr. Skelton, I cannot help but express my disappointment over the brutal manner in which Mrs. Flax-Brutus was treated by the BVI Tourist Board. Character assassination is not nice.

    No class!
