Cabinet extends contract to use Paradise Suites as detention facility

The existing contract between the Government of the Virgin Islands and Paradise Suites Hotel in Road Town has been extended.

Premier Andrew Fahie said in a statement on Wednesday that the decision was made “due to the need for additional rooms for government quarantine purposes to accommodate detainees in Immigration custody”.

He said the contract period previously approved for the occupancy of Paradise Suites Hotel has, therefore, been “extended by two weeks covering the period April 1 to July 15, 2020”.

Hotel is a prison

Back in April, Governor of the British Virgin Islands, Augustus Jaspert declared six rooms at the Paradise Hotel to be used as a prison facility.

The hotel, located above the One Stop Mall, is owned by businesswoman Patsy Lake.

He did so in accordance with Section 4A of the territory’s Prison Ordinance (Cap. 166), which states that “the governor may, by proclamation … declare any place to be a prison”.

Why don’t you ask the owner of Treasure Isle why the hotel is closed? They want the hotel closed? They aren’t interested?
When the government asked the hotel owners to use their hotels none including Paradise were interested in doing it. With the illegal entries a space had to be made available and the same Paradise was the only one to step forward. Once we don’t like people we always have to find a way to make things look wrong.

What can a man say? It is cronyism at its best. VIP really ain’t no better than NDP, which is bitingly disappointing. But, I do thank them for handling Covid a 100x better than the idiot c*******s in NDP handled Irma. Now please get on with the stimulus for people and businesses and get a handle on the trash pickup service because that ain’t working too well.

And while you at it, make sure some people go to Balsam Ghut for stealing our money for fake planes, mediocre school walls, a pier park that has cost us and will cost us more than it should, and anything else they need going to BG for. OH, and put CSC to sit down and stop Natalio from talking nonsense. I think that is all on my wishlist for this morning.

You must be really be someone with a depraved and wicked mind to be sitting and wishing for people to be sent to jail. This is the terribleness that is inside us as a people. You are condemning people without one shred of evidence that they have done anything wrong. Just because somebody say so. Don’t you stop to think they have feelings? They have families? They have children? This is a place with too many wicked people. With all the hurricanes and other dangers that we continue to face in the BVI nothing is changing us. God will deal with us. You are sick whoever wrote that.

I don’t understand why that money is not being spent on rapid test kits, but instead on rooms. I’m sure more money would be saved instead of lining that lady’s pockets which is already fat. You mean to tell me people that have jobs that required travel needs to quarantine every they go and come??? They might just be home for the 2 weeks. I swear the only thing the government know how to do is spend unnecessary money.
