Carrot Bay man accused of attempting to rape hitchhiker, granted $60K bail

Renold George

A 53-year-old Carrot Bay man was hauled before the Magistrate’s Court after he allegedly indecently assaulted and attempted to rape a female hitchhiker from East End.

Renold George was not required to plead to the offences when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards on Monday.

Allegations

The court heard that on April 20, alleged would-be rape victim and the accused — who are said to know each other — were at the Wayside Bar in Fat Hogs Bay on Tortola.

Sometime later, the woman accepted a ride from the accused to get home.

En route to her home, the accused allegedly stopped the vehicle and approached her from the passenger side of the vehicle.

After opening the door, he allegedly started touching her breasts and her vagina.

The court heard that despite the woman’s attempts to push him away, the accused man removed her pants and underwear.

It is further alleged that he went on to rub the tip of his penis on her vagina. He did not enter, the court heard.

It was then the woman fell to the ground and was rescued by an approaching female motorist, the court was told.

The reported victim was brought to the East End Police Station exposed from the waist down. She made a report.

She was later brought to the Dr D Orlando Smith hospital for a medical examination.

During the investigation, police reportedly recovered a pair of red female underwear, a pair of pants, and a belt from the scene of the alleged incident.

Bail

During the accused man’s appearance before Magistrate Richards, the Crown did not object to bail because the offences for which he is charged are ‘bailable’.

It is also said no objections were made because the accused man has strong ties to the community, and was not deemed a flight risk. As such, he was granted $60,000 bail with two signed sureties.

He is required to report to the Cane Garden Bay Police Station every Wednesday between 6 am and 6 pm and was ordered to have no contact with the woman in question.

Attorney Ruthilia Maximea represents George, and he is scheduled to return to court on July 24.

Hands off leave it alone if she don’t give you look peep but control your feelings. Ask God for mercy when you are tempted. At the end of the day trouble money and jailhouse wins. Live in the spirit so the flesh is defeated.

At which point of the incident did she get the hints that he was going to be doing something inappropriate? When he stopped the vehicle and approached her from the passenger seat? When he touched her body or when he took off her BELT and PANTS and UNDERWEAR? Or when he had UNZIPPED and then tried to have his way but couldn’t?, The passenger seat is quite a tight space for an intense sexual activity, and can only permit certain positions.

pls forgive me questions and indulge my ignorance, but this report didn’t state that there was a violent struggle or that she suffered injuries from being handled roughly, so I am just left to wonder how a pair of pants held with a belt would pull out of the waist of a resistant woman.

I apologize for doubting the possibility of an attempted rape, rape is a very hurtful and traumatic experience, but on this case I would just like to hear out what the man has to say for himself, because as far as all the current evidence is concerned, he was caught “pants down”.

Just look at the pants women here wear. Takes them a half hour to squeeze themselves in and another 15 minutes to button and zip. Only way they come off fast is when they want them to.

  23. Drunk says:

The graphics details that were given by the police represents the ”victim’s” side of the story. However, we should be careful not to jump to conclusions as there is also another side that is yet to be heard. There are things in this story that don’t add up. I am not saying that the story isn’t true but have we accepted the possibility that that particular individual may not have been in her right mind at the time? If you know the woman, you would understand that jumping to conclusions might be a dangerous thing.

  27. Eye says:

@mousa deport him to where? VG? And just for the records he offered her a ride home out of the goodness of his heart, he could have left her to find her way home herself and chances are she could have been raped and murdered by someone. Men keep your eyes open for these loosed women who are out to cause trouble. He should have ordered her out of his car when she asked him to stop the car so she can go to urinate. He was heading home to his wife and out of the goodness of his heart offered her a ride. Lying demonized, drunk woman. I guess he tried to take her clothed off while he was driving. This is what happens when you are at the wrong place at the wrong time.
