Carrot Bay man charged for prohibited weapon and ammo

The following is a media release from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

Police charged a 22-year-old man with having a prohibited weapon and ammunition after a search of his residence early yesterday uncovered the illegal items.

Deandre Donovan of Carrot Bay will appear in Magistrate’s Court to face the offences of possession of a prohibited weapon and unlawful possession of ammunition at the next available sitting.

During a search warrant executed on his Carrot Bay home, officers found a semi-automatic rifle along with five rounds of ammunition.

Commissioner of Police Mark Collins noted that this find is the latest in a series of firearm seizures by his officers in the last six months.

“My officers have so far recovered 28 firearms for the year including prohibited firearms and close to 500 rounds of ammunition. Those tasked with identifying persons and seizing illegal weapons have been relentless in ridding our streets of these firearms that have unfortunately cost too many lives. I commend their persistence,” he said.

The RVIPF continues to seek the public’s help in identifying persons who are in possession of illegal weapons. Persons can contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit directly at 368-9339.

All information will be held in strict confidence.

The police may do a good job at finding these weapons, but then the court will give a light sentence and the criminals will rejoice and continue on

Y’all does can’t wait for someone name to make the news so you can hide behind a fake name and have the world to say? I’m not condoning Mr Donovan’s actions either – do the crime, do the time is my motto! Who don’t hear, does feel! But from your comment, you can clearly sense hatred and grudge. We gotta do better as a ppl with this high level of envy and jealousy in this small place! You could’ve condemned Mr Donovan action without the added hate for him and his friends! Hate ain’t gon solve anything! Just a thought though…

Money and popularity run things here, so many of them were quiet when people were being gunned down. The 11 yr old name was Trinity, she was just about to graduate from Primary school until her life and Mr.Penn’s were taken. When I would go to the school to pick up my son and saw Trinity, she was always so polite and would give me a hug and to this day, the children always talk about how she would share her food and snacks with them. Too often the victims are forgotten and their names never mentioned by the RVIPF. BUT, as a community, we must do our best to remember all of their names and continue to pray for justice.

No progress because of these idiots and their love affair with guns and the higher up love affair with corruption too busy making dollars to stop the flow & sale or implement stiff laws.

Many laws they talked about being a legislative government but the people are crying out for mandatory gun sentences yet the politicians too busy implementing fines for bringing in new species.

You guys all got voted in sat there prayer together cough and none of them thought to speak up and write a modern gun control law with real penalties including ineligibility for bail.

We’re not out of the woods yet. Disgraceful you politicians in the control seat no one wants to push the button. you all in your self absorbency have let us down.

You will let it run down like the usvi they can take the charters that’s a bandaid as it’s crime infested way worse than here & not safe at all!

Nature’s little secret hard as shoot to keep a secret. All these lil boys who love to brag totting guns and the dealers can’t get bagged? Corruption at work.

  22. @resident says:

Decriminalize or legalize weed and turn the place upside down with quickly set up and dismantled mobile stop searches similar to UK police behavior after Irma. No time to text about police on the road. Gun problem solved.

Let’s face the truth if every smoker in 2022 went to jail this & many countries would not be able to function top to bottom.

Information is a click away thus times have reverted to common sense as studies on one of the most studied & longest used plant for medicine fiber food and spirituality become widely available.

The racist USA president Nixon willfully and knowingly created generations of criminals through unjustified policies originally aimed at stifling the vietnam war’s peace movement which was fueled by the consciousness expanding spread of LSD among white Americans.

A war they lost and the policies constructed to jailing black folks and Mexicans with their love of “marijuana.”

More soldiers & less colored folks was their intent. Perfect in the mind of a war hungry racist. Modern history can be ignored but not rewritten. Facts are facts.

Unfortunately the USA which strong armed countries into creating a global deadly drug war is second place in legalizing the drugs for “taxes”

first place goes to the Netherlands for realizing & ENDING the HARM created on their citizens by the nonsense racist USA drug war.

Focus on the real dangers and stop upholding outdated politicized lies about weed that turns upstanding citizens into criminals for lack of legal access to legitimately beneficial recreation & medicine.

It is so easy to get back to normalcy but no. Frustrating. Change laws to get youngsters out of thinking they are bad ax criminals scorned by society for enjoying a joint filled with a plants flowers.

Geezers perpetuate the problem then issue flimsy statements condemning gun violence.

Next the youth become bad ax criminals who want a gun because they have no one on their side except bad influences.

Don’t wait until we hit USVI levels of violent crime to toss the towel in and decriminalize when it’s already too late!!

Lower the interaction between non violent citizens looking for mental relief and the people who are probably dealing both good drugs, bad drugs and weapons.

Refresh the old way of thinking as it’s not working! Old men stuck in their ways can’t see clearly that prohibitions reliably makes criminal profits increase.

Decrease their sources of profit & hold over the community through legalization. USA is moving to legalize every beneficial drug that provides real mental relief especially considering the suicide rate among Middle East war veterans.

Veterans who are perfect candidates to draft, harsh but true for a war mongering nation.

yet we are stuck in the mud creating our own problems by fighting imaginary forever wars (war on drugs) & playing by another nation’s (USA) rule book.

I could swear the UK never-say-sorry-even-after-slavery culture had more pride than this. I guess the USA has had them by the balls since World War Two or from their first Declaration of Independence.

Make traveling aimlessly with a gun for no reason not worth it in the Virgin Islands. We must be crazy because we keep doing the same thing over & over while expecting a cultural shift towards transparency as it gets worse & worse.

What could be more transparent than youngsters walking into a dispensary over walking into a hood where there’s probably tainted products & everything else for sale?!!!

  23. Tola man says:

there are alot of weapons on the streets and its not the young people to blame..politicians..corrupt officials and corrupt police are the ones to blame, no 22 year old person importing guns into the VI, each resident is also to blame since they keep silent about the reality of our situation while dying inside but since things start getting out of hand ppl getting scared and beginning snitching on each other.

  24. @tola man says:
