CCT launches 5G network in the BVI
Caribbean Cellular Telephone (CCT) has activated the territory’s first 5G network, becoming the first telecommunications provider to introduce the technology in the British Virgin Islands.
According to a media release from the telecommunications company, the service is now available in parts of the territory, with coverage expected to expand in the coming months. CCT said it has also upgraded its existing 4G LTE network, which continues to serve most customers, to support the transition to 5G.
The new system is expected to provide faster internet speeds, lower latency, and the ability to connect more devices at once.
CCT Chief Executive Officer Averad Penn said the launch was the result of years of investment and planning by the company.
“The BVI deserves world-class technology, and today we’re proud to deliver it. 5G puts us on par with the most advanced markets in the world and opens the door to opportunities our community can embrace immediately,” Penn stated.
Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley also welcomed the development. In the release, he described the introduction of 5G as a “monumental achievement” for the Virgin Islands and commended CCT’s investment in the sector.
The company noted that widespread use of 5G will also depend on access to additional spectrum, regulatory support, and compatibility with 5G-enabled devices.

Just another way to rip customers off. Still buffering on your 4G network.
Good Job CCT, Keep push the limits while fixing the blind spots.
They need to release a unlimited data plan that’s affordable like in the states.
