Cellphones, weapons seized inside HM Prison

Her Majesty’s Prison in Balsam Ghut.

Information reaching our news centre indicates that there may be a need to beef up security at His Majesty’s Prison in Balsam Ghut.

Our news centre has learned that the authorities recently recovered a number of banned items including cell phones, drugs and weapons from one section of the correctional facility. The exact quantity of drugs and the exact weapons have not been revealed.

However, the seizure will continue to fuel beliefs that prison employees are involved in assisting inmates to get contraband. The seizure of the cellphones also falls in line with those who believe that some inmates have a connection to those on the outside and continue to influence criminal activity in the community despite their incarceration.

It is also unclear whether the prisoners who had the items will face additional penalties in addition to the time they are already serving.

The news that banned items have once again been seized at the prison will come as no surprise to residents as the authorities have long struggled to keep the facility from being breached.

Many residents say inmates have access to social media and from time to time, post their luxuries and snippets of their lives on those platforms.

In the meantime, our news centre understands that the seizure of the contraband happened just days after criminals attacked a prison vehicle that was taking inmates to court.

One police officer was shot and injured as residents continued to maintain that the perpetrators were trying to prevent a key witness from testifying in court.

What’s new? The governor and minister responsible for the subject continue to turn a blind eye to what’s happening in the prison. A new strategy for dealing with HMP is obviously needed but will never be enacted.

How do you stop it, obviously some of the employees at the prison are the culprits.

  7. Simple Math says:

This is not new to the BVI, it’s simple math especially in times like these. A prison guard gets paid $25-30K per year which after taxes is about just over $2k a month. They’re offered $1k each time to take something inside, no guns or knife, but a phone, a little weed and they say it’s no harm and I get my money. It will never stop, keep dreaming.

Time to move selected inmates in Balo to other prisons very far away. There are available cells in the other BOT prisons; St. Helena, Ascension, Tristan da Cunha, Falklands, Pitcairn, South Georgia, Antarctica, etc.

I am sure you know better. Itis a joke to think the UK will do anything positive for the territory, other that fill its streets with guns and dope.

He who choses to be denial will stay in denial.

Why is it that two mighty white men can’t stop guns and dope from entering a rinky dink prison such as that?

Something does not appear wrong to you.

Take off the blinders, study the history, learn their psychology and see more than you seeing now.

We really tolerate too much foolishness.

Criminals calling attention to themselves. @El Demonio Negro if the man is a hardened criminal you really think he needs you to go defend him online?

Police not doing their job. Weapons in the prison.

Everything is upside down in the BVI.
