Charter company offers reduced rates for residents to commute between Anegada and Beef Island

By Kamal Haynes, BVI News Staff

Local charter company Island Birds Air Charter is offering BVI residents ‘substantial’ discounted round-trip prices to commute between the Terrance B Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island and the Auguste George International Airport on Anegada.

Director of Operations Marshall Hodges told BVI News that following the recent reopening of the Anegada airport, his company decided to resume services at lower rates than usual during the COVID-19 period for residents.

He said it will help to alleviate the long hours usually spent commuting on the seas with the option to now arrive from Anegada to Tortola approximately 12 minutes from takeoff.

“We will do these purely as domestic flights, so just between the two domestic fields and to help out BVIslanders in this financially hard time where we are going offering anyone that is a BVI resident a substantial discount,” Hodges stated.

Virgin Gorda to be added to service

The Director further said residents on the sister island of Virgin Gorda will also have access to the services once their Taddy Bay Airport reopens for operations.

He said: “We would go back there the very same day that they open that airport … I’m assuming, of course, that they will open up the triangle so people would go from Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Beef Island.”

Adhering to govt’s COVID-19 precautionary measures

Hodges also stated that the charter company is fully in tune with all of the government’s precautionary requirements for COVID-19 to ensure a safe environment for all its passengers.

“We thoroughly sanitize our interiors before and after every single fight and even exterior passenger handles or any place that anyone possibly touch and we are absolutely abiding by all the social distancing, the mask-wearing, the glove-wearing and taking every precaution,” he stated.

Hopefully they answer their phone and respond better than the other airline that does this Anegada route. I always want to use homegrown businesses here but sometimes no matter how hard you try to give them business they still don’t give a $hit, and then curse you if you don’t use them.

What is the cost to go back and forth?. Why put up all this big write up and not even inform people of the discounted rate? SMH

I think they don’t publish a set rate because sometimes they can give you an even better deal. That’s what they’ve done with me in the past. Nadia is great that way, very fair.
