Climate Trust Fund opens first grant call
Community groups, civil society organisations and private-sector entities in the Virgin Islands can apply for funding under the first call for proposals from the Virgin Islands Climate Change Trust Fund (VICCTF).
The application process opens today, September 3 and offers two grant pathways to support climate change adaptation and mitigation projects and strengthen the capacity of local organisations.
The Community Resilience Grant is available to organisations ready to implement climate-related projects, while the Capacity-Building Grant will support entities that need to strengthen their internal capabilities and operations before carrying out projects. Some organisations may qualify for both.
“The consultations we held across the territory in July made one thing clear, organisations want a fair, transparent shot at this funding, and they want us to meet them where they are,” VICCTF Chief Executive Officer Chamberlain Emmanuel stated.
The Trust held consultations from July 20 to 24 on Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke, along with a territory-wide virtual session. Participants included government agencies, statutory bodies, businesses, non-governmental organisations, community groups and faith-based organisations.
Participants discussed local climate priorities, eligibility requirements, funding needs and the types of projects the Trust should support. The Trust was also compiling questions raised during those meetings into a Frequently Asked Questions document to help organisations prepare applications.
“That feedback shaped how we built CFP-1 and CFA-1. So whether your organisation is ready to launch a project tomorrow or still finding its footing, there’s a pathway here for you. I’d encourage every eligible group across the territory to take the first step by registering as a Partner,” Emmanuel stated.
Before applying, organisations are encouraged to register through the Trust’s Partnership Alliance Registration process at [www.vicctf.org]. The process will help determine an organisation’s readiness and identify the most suitable funding option.
The Trust will formally open the call during a press conference today. It will host a virtual workshop on September 7 to explain the application process, eligibility requirements, key dates and other steps.
Weekly virtual question-and-answer sessions will provide additional assistance. The Trust also plans in-person drop-in sessions on Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke and Anegada, with a schedule to be released.
The VICCTF mobilises, manages and disburses climate financing for priorities covering energy, infrastructure, water, tourism, the environment, agriculture, fisheries, health and financial services.
