Parents associated with the Ivan Dawson Primary School in Cane Garden Bay joined students and staff yesterday (March 13) to capitalize on a grand opportunity in celebrating Commonwealth Day.

While the Day was being observed, funds were being raised to improve the school compound.

According to President of the Ivan Dawson Primary School Parent Teachers Association, OJ Jacob, the event was a massive success.

“We had Commonwealth Day activities in Cane Garden Bay. We also had a fundraiser to raise funds for the school. It was a massive success.”

“The funds that we gathered we will use to fix a few problems in the school and get some resources for the school as well, and start other projects that we have in mind for the school. In the near future, we would like to get some computers and stuff like that, repair the resource room and some of the tiles in the roof, and other things around the school,” Jacob further told BVI News Online.

The event featured a number of sporting and recreational activities, as well as the sale of food.

Jacob said the Parent Teachers Association will continue to host the event annually.
