Community decries video footage of woman being assaulted
A viral video of a woman being assaulted in Road Town is being decried by the public and raising fresh concerns about violence against women in the territory.
The video — reportedly filmed on April 28 — shows the abuser shouting insults at the woman and pushing and hitting her in some instances.
A few onlookers were filmed staring as the situation unfolded, but one gentleman intervened and prevented the abuser from planting further blows on the woman.
Throughout the video, the victim does nothing to defend herself.
It’s understood that the victim was in a relationship with her abuser, who many say is a Jamaican national. The victim has since posted on social media, confirming that she sustained no serious injuries and that the matter has been reported to the police.
She also confirmed that her abuser was triggered after she prevented him from contacting her.
“You all can keep this up, I don’t care if you share it around and have a laugh at it because everybody has their time. But don’t assume why he beat me up. It happened only because I blocked him and he couldn’t reach me this morning,” the victim said in a social media video.
Other details related to the incident remain unknown, but the victim urged the community to stop spreading false information about matters that could be life-threatening.
“You should know the backstory before sharing things because people could die in the future from things like this. You don’t have to share and be part of the lies.”
In the meantime, social media users have rushed to the woman’s defence, decrying domestic violence and calling for the abuser to be punished.
“No man is supposed to put his hands on you sis. You better walk away from this abusive relationship,” one user said.
“This small community has a very small island mentality! There was absolutely NOTHING comedic about that video. An imbecile man incapable of handling himself with decorum!!! You never put your hands on anyone no matter how angry you are!” another user said.
“If he could behave like that publicly, imagine what could have happened in private. Glad she is okay,” another user posted.

This is the damn problem these days! People would rather watch, film, sensationalize and post, rather than doing the right thing and helping the victim at hand.
I still remember well the young man dying under the truck that went down Joe’s Hill, and the nasty person focusing on videoing and posting the images of a dying man, rather than helping or comforting the man in his last moments!
It is so damn disgusting how people are becoming! How has society become so twisted?! Put your f-ing phone down and HELP! My God!!!!!
Aclear sign of being in an abusive retalinoship is when the person being abused rationalizes the behaviour of the abuser. This is the clearly the case here regardless of what she did.
she took his money telling him she overseas and needed money and he strolls by and she at the ATM, he should not of touched her but her should of made sure he got his money from her and leave her well alone , just like all the girls who think men are ATMs now…
If indeed that is so he should have gone to the police not lay his hands on her. As a man you touch a woman the law is coming after you. As a man the women these days is out here thinking that men is their personal ATM machines that is why I stay away from all of them. One down st.Thomas point to my cousin car while she was in the salon getting her hair done on his dime saying he was her ATM machine. You women need to stop playing these games with men and go work for your own money.
regardless of whatever the story is
i cannot pity women who pick up males with enough red flags to paint the sky red: traits like aggressive, thugs, unfaithful, smoking, clubbing, at every festival and party, scooter rider, kia soul driver, dodge driver, reckless driver, big gold chains, multiple women, sagging pants, gang signs in photos etc
they pickup these kind of the dudes expecting romance and commitment but only get cheated on or beat down
i can’t feel sorry for your poor choices in men
the song says “Don’t save her, she dont wanna be saved…”
just like the women and young girls at the back of scooters with no helmet… i can’t feel sorry…you made that choice.
the women who got to fight other woman for their man. that’s their choice.
the women who crying when there drug man/streetman or violent man dies from their lifestyle. i can’t feel sorry for you
the women who expecting marriage and hoping for marriage but the man they pick up is some real low standard dudes who live a certain gangsta or partyman lifestyle the only thing they getting is a child with no ring and ending up a single mother at some point
then those single mothers will poorly raise their kids only for them to grow up and be a problem in the community…rinse and repeat! thats why so many youths involved in crime from 13-19 yrs old cuz them from single mother home or them mother with a “badman” “gangster” “partyman”
i can’t feel sorry for you unless you trying to make better life choices then yea.
got young girls doing baby shower and celebrating but no ring on them finger… them not even living together…. them out partying and on speed boat tho….
Good luck to yall!
Tortola is too small for women to be playing games with men when it comes to money. It can become dangerous.
Play stupid games, you will receive stupid prizes.
I have always and still on my grind making my own money. I don’t ask any man or expect to ask or depend on any man for anything or hood wink any man for anything. Whatever went down, she sure got busted at the ATM. Perhaps she thought he was stupid or something. Now he is the running joke and may face charges for laying his hands on her.
Whatever between the 2 ah dem, they choose to accept or refuse, money or no money, love or no love, their choice. What I got gripe with is I had step exit by the elevator coming from upstairs the bank a few seconds before to scuffle. Suppose me or some innocent person was passing same time and get a blow from this dude in his rage. Suppose he had a weapon. People in relationships, if the thing can’t work out, then ayo walk away, but sadly, some of them tolerate, give and take abuse for years and years. Within a couple days the 2 of them will be wrapped back up in bed making love once again waiting for the next blow up. Their choice. Just be mindful of innocent people out there minding their business
DEPORT HE R@$$ ASAP………THEM DONT HEAR TO KEEEP FROM THESE DOGGONE ISLNDMAN?
While it was sad to see the young man beating on the woman, she is an adult that is clearly willingly in an abusive situation. I’m sure before the sun went down yesterday they were back sweet again while you all are on here arguing over bulls**t. Some people like to be victims, that’s sad, but also that’s life. Mind your f**king business and make sure you are good. To those talking about help, you walking by the bank minding your business with your two hands swinging, you see the person behaving like this not knowing whether he has a gun, knife or his mental state. Help who? Call the police, sure, but I’m not approaching a mad man with my two bare hands and to hear her story, that’s her sweetheart and she never once mentioned feeling bad about being beaten on, she just wanted to make sure that whatever you send around is the real story. Social media has turned most people into complete a**es.
” But don’t assume why he beat me up. It happened only because I blocked him and he couldn’t reach me this morning ”
That is not normal. The bar is too low.
