Concerns raised over proposed supermarket in Cane Garden Bay
A recent Facebook post by a concerned resident has sparked a lively discussion in local social media circles about a proposed new supermarket at Black Point in Cane Garden Bay.
The post, which has received more than 30 likes and just under two dozen comments, raises concerns over safety, traffic, and community consultation as the Vanterpool family’s MVP Group moves forward with the project.
The concerned resident who raised the issue noted, “Right now, this proposal raises some real concerns. That corner is already tight and congested, making it difficult for taxis and residents to move safely through the area. There’s no designated parking. I hope a plan for loading and unloading is considered. And we all know what happens when waste management isn’t properly addressed.”
Many residents commented on the post, echoing these concerns in the comments. One commenter said, “Totally agreed, the supermarket opening needs to stop…we need to start a petition and stop this.”
Other community members focused on safety issues, “That is a terrible location for a grocery store. Very dangerous for pedestrians as it is and very little parking available,” another person chimed in.
Some voices called for careful planning to ensure that the development benefits the community without compromising safety or quality of life. One woman emphasized the broader implications, stating, “The community already faces natural challenges, including but not limited to congestion, parking, and lack of sidewalks. Adding another structure could worsen these safety issues and make residents feel vulnerable and ignored.”
While the MVP Group is known for developing successful supermarkets and other businesses in the community, residents are urging the company to carefully consider traffic management, pedestrian safety, and community feedback as the development proceeds.

What healthy food are you talking about? Supermarkets, particularly in container reliant islands like this, often rely on export grade food, most of which is full of preservatives, prioritizing profit over well-being.
One other thing – Is this One Mart actually going to bother putting prices on its shelves or are they going to continue hiding how much they continue to jack up their retails?

if people dont like the location just bycott the market, we talk too much action speaks everytime. A few of us patronize bobby more cause that mvp group prices during the past year is too high eventhough the ads on radio say they are the same for all, not true. BYCOTT
