Contracts being drafted | Repairs to fire substations to commence soon

The substations of the Fire & Rescue Service across the territory will soon be repaired, Works Minister Kye Rymer has said.

The minister gave that indication during Thursday’s sitting of the House of Assembly.

He said: I wish to take this opportunity to advise this Honourable House and members of the public that measures are being put in place to commence repairs to all the Fire Substations throughout the territory in the very near future.”

He said a bill of quantity — which is an itemized list outlining the cost of materials, parts, labour that is required to repair each of the facilities — have been already been submitted.

He said contracts are now being drafted for the Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Jost Van Dyke and Cappoon’s Bay fire substations.

With the exception of Anegada’s fire substation which requires extensive repairs, Rymer said he expects “repairs to all the substations mentioned will be completed by this years’ end”.

The substations had sustained varying levels of damage during Hurricane Irma some two years ago.

We are working hard  

In the meantime, the first-term legislator said the new VIP administration is working hard.

“We entered office and found a lot of things left to be done. We are rising to the challenge and through the grace of God, the support of the people of the Virgin Islands and the collective hard work of the members of our team, including our Public Officers and other stakeholders, we will ensure that the BVI recovers and rebuilds, becomes revitalised and resilient,” he said.
