COVID vaccines not mandatory for healthcare workers

Though they are on the frontlines of the battle against COVID-19, it is not mandatory for local healthcare workers to take the COVID-19 vaccines recently donated by the United Kingdom.

Starting today February 11, the government will start inoculating the population with the 8,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines. Health Minister Carvin Malone and Governor John Rankin have indicated they will be among the first to take jabs.

But the Health Minister told our centre that it is still voluntary for healthcare workers.

The government has already announced that the healthcare workers and law enforcement workers will be given first priority during the inoculation campaign.

And the general public is being urged to take the shots as a possible way to prevent the spread of the virus as well as the deaths and economic turmoil that results from a COVID-19 outbreak.

But local leaders have always stressed that they will respect the decisions of those who don’t wish to be vaccinated.

The government is currently carrying out an attitude survey to determine the general public’s feelings towards the COVID-19 vaccine which was developed in under a year.

The results have not yet been released.

Despite the millions of lives the COVID-19 virus has claimed all over the world, countries are hesitant to make it mandatory for certain groups of people or workers since many people are anti-vaccination because of religious, historical, or other personal reasons.

They are leading by example by having a healthy skepticism of a questionable product made by a company with a long rap sheet of fraud and safety violations. Good for them. You can never remove it from your body once it is injected. Look out for an increase in autoimmune diseases.

  2. Not vaccinated says:

you will have to be under curfew during a next outbreak. Vaccinated you can relax yourself!

They have had it a week and so far there is no plan to start vaccinating.

Could it be that the BVI government in its great scientific wisdom and attitude to the UK is not actually going to make it available?

What other government surveys people for their attitude to a vaccine?

It’s all unreal and not a little scary.

While not mandatory, ALL healthcare workers should seriously consider getting vaccinated against covid. Not getting vaccinated places their health, that of their patients and their colleagues at needless risk.

Working in healthcare carries a health risk as workers are exposed to all sort if infectious agents. In order to work in hospitals it is generally accepted that workers need to be vaccinated from common infectious agents in order to protect the patients they care for.

While I understand the hesitancy with covid given its a new illness and these vaccines were developed quickly, it is imperative short of some contraindication that ALL healthcare workers be vaccinated in the future.

The thought of an unvaccinated healthcare worker caring for patients who inadvertently infects those patients with covid will be untenable and a medico legal nightmare and disaster.

Don’t want to get vaccinated as a healthcare worker? Consider finding another line of work.

First of all… I am a healthcare worker in the US and tbh I am not getting vaccinated. It’s my choice, just like everyone out there have theirs. I am not against having it however, it should be studied much longer for me to decide if I will get it. And yes I’ve worked with covid patients and thanks be to God I have not contracted it as I wear my PPE accordingly. I’m not gonna be so quick to jump onTo something just because……. those vaccines does not even last a lifetime! Some stay 6 mths to a year in ur body then guess what? Ur gotta do it all again. What sense does that make? Uhhh more research???!! So please don’t talk say we should choose a diff line of work if we don’t want the vaccine. How about EVERYBODY should get it? Back off healthcare workers please!

I understand your concerns; however, each day you go to work you risk getting infected or if you are an asymptomatic carrier, you risk infecting your patients and colleagues.

PPE can only protect you so far. Mishaps happen all the time in clinical settings, and with covid variants which are more infectious and deadly appearing, you have to consider the risk of not become vaccinated.

Yes, you have a choice not to get the vaccine, but your employer has a greater choice to protect the public and the patients they serve.

I would imagine as time goes by, you will have difficulty maintaining that line of work in the U.S. as you will be a legal liability to your employer.

So sure, it’s understandable you wish to wait a while before getting the vaccine, but I doubt as time goes by you will be able to maintain working in the healthcare field without proof of vaccination.

Bring Back the tourist $$$ and help our economy! New CDC Guidelines: https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/covid-19/info-by-product/clinical-considerations.html

Vaccinated persons with an exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 are NOT required to quarantine if they meet all of the following criteria†:

    – Are fully vaccinated (i.e., ≥2 weeks following receipt of the second dose in a 2-dose series, or ≥2 weeks following receipt of one dose of a single-dose vaccine)
    – Are within 3 months following receipt of the last dose in the series
    – Have remained asymptomatic since the current COVID-19 exposure

Your comment doesn’t make sense. We will still need a quarantine period as there will be people that aren’t vaccinated.

  10. Lists says:

Helloo! You can do lists of reactions, etc till the cows come home. But this list does not say anything about whether the patient listed already had underlying conditions making them prone to whatever reaction they had. Look at the average age of the majority of the people they were administering the vaccine to. Other than health care workers most of the rest were already high risk as they were over 65 and had underlying conditions. If the vaccine had started at the other end of the spectrum in a younger healthier population you would see a completely different set of statistics indicating a markedly high tolerance of the vaccine with virtually no side effects or injuries. You have to weigh the whole scenario and not just look at a list of reactions.

Exactly. That’s one of the reason I stated they are interpreting the data wrong. I would gather they just go about copying and pasting data without having any knowledge of how to interpret that data.

Their goal is to prove their point of being against the vaccine, and trying to convince others to do the same.

People of this mindset are the very same ones who end up with a bad case of covid requiring mechanical ventilation and eventually dying.

Then while they are taking their last breath gasping for air, they then want to tell the world to take the virus seriously.

I’ve seen that played out before. Bottom line for me is this:

The benefit of taking the vaccine outweigh the risk of attempting to live without it.

      To each his own.

There will come a point in this pandemic when covid vaccination will become the norm for schools, travel, and work. It’s only a matter a time.

Those without vaccinations will find it increasingly difficult to move around this world without it.

My suggestions for those hesitant to getting the vaccine is to do your own research, talk with your doctor, and make your own judgement and decision.

So, if they already knew the potential for such reactions to the vaccine for persons with underlying conditions and older persons, why give it to them?
      Seems a bit odd?
