COVID virus reaches ESHS’s senior school! Classes return online

At least one positive case of COVID-19 has reportedly been found at the Elmore Stoutt High School’s (ESHS) senior campus at Pasea.

The discovery means the school’s campus has now been closed and students and teachers have been asked to revert to online schooling for the remainder of the school term.

Parents and teachers were reportedly advised of this development sometime last evening.

Meanwhile, close contacts of the single case discovered at the senior school so far reportedly have been placed in quarantine. These include students and teachers, BVI News understands.

Just recently, the school’s junior campus in Lower Estate had also been asked to close its doors and revert to online schooling, as a couple of COVID-19 cases were reportedly discovered at that location.

At the time, Education Minister, Dr. Natalio Wheatley said the move was taken to ensure safety.

In announcing at the beginning of the term that students will revert to face-to-face learning this school year, Dr Wheatley urged all schools to continue to abide by established public health protocols from the previous academic year.

The school term comes to an end on December 10 when students will take their annual Christmas break.

  5. The Goose and Gander is not treated the same! says:

The procedures are NOT the same for all schools. In another school where an adult staff had covid, only the closest contacts were asked to stay home and the rest of the students body continued face to face. In the case of ESHS, the entire Junior section and senior section were sent online. I am beginning to think that the “powers to be” do not have a set procedure/standard or just downright don’t know what they are doing. The same procedure used at one school should be followed at all schools if you REALLY care about all children in the BVI. To make matters worse, the administration of the school where the adult had covid, were content with that arrangement. Talk about STUPID. Great job ESHS with how you deal with these cases. I hope the administration at the other school take a page from your book.

    • Education says:

Education goes beyond face to face contact with a teacher. Learning to take responsibility for your own learning is still education. Experience is education. Learning to adjust and use the technology around you to still get things done is part of your education. It is easy to see why so many of us in the BVI have degrees piled high and are very uneducated.

Dont be a fool it only needs one for it to spread and if you are a real parent you would appreciate that the government is being cautious.

Manage it – don’t just send everyone home. You can not continue to prioritise covid over learning and parents trying to earn a living. Most kids will have very mild cases and we have the boosters coming.
In the meantime travellers can enter on a rapid test…what are we playing at?

Disgraceful. Stop interrupting children’s educations for one positive case. Covid is not going away. Do you want to be doing this forever?

  9. Bvi health? says:

    Bvi health?
There’s hardly any mental health treatment
Drinking and driving is basically legal
There is no enforcement of driving in fractions or licensing or boat licensing And piloting for locals it is laissez-faire
Domestic assault is very high and carries laughable penalties
There is so many things the Bvi government allows or condones that are antithetical to caring about the health of one’s population that this game is a joke especially given the sickest part of the BVI is its woefully under educated population keep them out of school
and continue down the road to a nation of fool

    School closed too!
