Crab antics! Vanterpool blasts supermarket critics

OneMart Superstore is owned by legislator, Mark Vanterpool.

Fourth District Representative and businessman Mark Vanterpool has hit out at detractors of his business success, describing their behaviour as similar to that of crabs.

Vanterpool recently opened a fourth branch of his OneMart Supermarket in the Lower Estate area while noting that he aimed to make access to goods easier for members of the community.

“Somebody asked me yesterday, why are you opening more supermarkets? And the crab antics that comes out is amazing,” Vanterpool said in the House of Assembly.

Vanterpool alluded to his humble beginnings and suggested that residents should instead be more supportive of each other and push them towards achieving even greater success.

“A little boy like me who come from feeding pigs, opening four supermarkets and people saying that… ‘what more you want?’ That is the crab antics that we need to get out of. We need to support our people to go forward in strength and unity,” he added.

While citing the territory’s annual budgets which hover in the region of $400 million, Vanterpool urged that persons should believe in the BVI and its abilities and thanked Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley for guiding the territory in that direction.

“Let’s hold up our heads, man. Let’s be positive. Let’s go forward with positivity. Despite all the attacks on us about the financial services and all of the issues, people are still investing and believing in the Virgin Islands,” the lawmaker said.

Vanterpool expressed that the BVI is going places despite all the difficulties and issues it was having.

“The BVI has a bright future and we are prepared as a family to invest in the BVI,” Vanterpool said during the new OneMart branch opening.

That’s just the way BVI Landers are. They are bitter people. They never uplift their own. They rather pull them down and spread propaganda. Don’t let it bother you. Keep doing you and do so without any distractions and you will be fine. I’m happy to see you expanding. Great to see a local doing big things.

Why are BVI landers such bitter and negotiate souls?? Can I get an answer??? Anyone??? What are your thoughts on why this is??

  4. Small minds, shortsightedness says:

Some people are just happy with getting by, comfortable in the struggle, so people who aspire to do well for not only themselves but their families will be seen as greedy. I salute this man for his vision and aspirations, not everyone will get it and we have to learn to be ok with that. He needs to open one in the 3rd district too, if you ask me,patiently waiting Mark!

More branches means more jobs for people who don’t have one, easier access to groceries and less congestion in the one at Purcell Estate. Small minds can’t understand that, because they can’t see pass Mark, and the money he makes, people need to take a page out of his book. How come no one asked the owner of RTW why so many and rtw all over the place?

I hope that Mark understands that people don’t like when others are exceeding them and their lifestyles. Crab antics has being around forever…jealously and envy from Cain and Abel days, so what is new?.

  7. Good job says:

Mark has done a great job expanding his business to accommodate residents. One thing I found interesting, it is next to impossible to find a decent selection of drinks with 0 sugar in any stores. Maybe a Diet Coke, but very little like Vitamin Water or Gatorade with no sugar. Everything is loaded with sugar and it would be a good idea to provide healthier drinks to the public.

All these are very good to help the community. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY will be one’s own investment in heavenly things NOT religious things. SEEK A PERSONAL INTIMATE AND HOLY WALK WITH JESUS CHRIST. What about your spiritual growth? This is what will last. Man’s labor under the sun is vanity. After he goes to the dust and does not know whether the person after him will spent it wisely or not.

Local BVI islanders want everything without lifting a finger. They pretend to go to church and God leads their way then during the week they stab each other in the back. Cudos to those that go and try to make themselves better; instead of listening to those that want to sit back and have everything handed to them then criticize those that have made the effort.

Most historians/psychologists think it derived from the slavery experience.

That unhappy period bred Anger, Distrust,Shame, Selfishness, Jealousy, Deviousness, Mamaguyism, Self-hatred… witnin the enslaved struggling at survival.

Frustrated, having little control over their lives, fearing Death and Punishment at the hands of White Massas…the enslaved either internalised the Bitterness or externalised it by Covert Resistance or Overt Rebellion.

It is that Dark Outlook at Life, that INHERITED negative mindset, although we are “free”, which still psycologically enslaves us.

None of these blogs have 30, 40, 50 or 100 ups or downs because none of them were written and approved and the up and downs manipulated by a white at BVINews…..

I mean, it is so obvious now. Some people are really that small and shallow? Look at the scenarios on some of the other headlines.

It is really so outstandingly obvious and ridiculous all at once, that it is almost comical to the trained eye.

Because profit margins are better on junk food…artificially refined products are cheaper wholesale products with high profits. Hold mark and others accountable until they provide better products for consumers even if it eats into some of their profit. In the long run it helps the local economy through lower health care costs, with more tax dollars directed toward better education, roads, and overall improved living conditions for everyone.
