Curfew now starts at midnight, beaches open till 7 pm, mass gatherings rise for select groups

The territory-wide ’10 pm to 5 am’ curfew has been further relaxed to now run from midnight to 5 am daily.

Access to beaches has also been extended by two hours daily. The new beach hours are from 5 am to 7 pm.

In a statement issued late Wednesday, June 17, Premier Andrew Fahie said the new changes will take effect today, Thursday, June 18.

Mass gatherings, vessels

Premier Fahie also said Cabinet has approved for there to be an increase in mass gatherings for faith-based organisations, graduations, weddings and funerals only. One person per 64 square feet with a maximum of 100 people are permitted at these gatherings.

Additionally, private vessels will be allowed to operate within territorial waters during full daylight hours between 5 am and 7 pm. Premier Fahie said ferries will also be allowed to operate in territorial waters within the curfew hours that now run from 5 am to midnight.

Don’t let your guard down!

The Premier also delivered some words of caution as the territory moves closer to some sense of normalcy since the advent of COVID-19.

“I want to encourage all of us not to let down our guard. I am concerned that people are not social distancing standing six feet apart from each other. We are becoming complacent. We are not wearing our masks which should only cover our nose to our chin. Each day we ignore these important steps as COVID-19 continues, we are putting our lives at risk,” he said.

“I am asking all of us to do our part. Let us all continue to encourage each other. As we continue in this New Regular living and working with COVID-19, let us continue to be proactive. Let us continue to work in the oneness of purpose. Let us stay informed and remain laser-focused. Each of us has a role to play to help our economy and to keep us safe. We are in this together, and together we will defeat COVID-19. I am confident that you will stay the course,” the Premier added.

I am not getting the purpose of the curfew at all right now to be honest. 5 hours between midnight and 5am? Surely can’t be to to control Covid-19, so possibly some other reason for this?

Increased gatherings for only specific events – really? Why only those events, what difference does it make? More control?

W.H.O has already said the six foot rule is old news so why all these guidelines. Masks are unhealthy for the majority as they increase your carbon dioxide intake, this whole thing is getting a little closer to madness every day.

Now that the samples don’t need to go to Trinidad, I doubt this government will tell the public if it have positive cases resulting from re entry. Anytime accounting is not required, they ain’t going tell we nothing.

Same how they get vex with UK once it come to having to account for money. Clawde going on like he is the one with the only vote for or against independence. They want to be free to turn the treasury upside down and enhance their own lifestyle. Klime ain’t care bout nobody. As long as all the ways paved for him to get his consultancy money, he good. That is the difference between he and the e******d one. The e******d one want the glory and fame but claws want the money in he hand and he a happy camper.

A reminder. We going leave all the money, power and material stuff right here

Just lost on why faith based organisations seem to have a special treatment here. Surely Our Father understands that there is a Global Pandemic and will not object people giving Him praise in their homes, gardens, cars or wherever else. The Reformation showed that the ordinary person did not need a Priest to worship Him. This is reckless and seems to pander to a particularly influential paid government consultant / purported follow of Jesus.

I commend the Premier and his Government. Don’t mind the noise. The majority agrees that they are doing a dam good job.

Hang in there strange about testing in the states we are testing 10,000 a day in each state. 10,000 we could test all the BVI in one day and you would all be safer for it. Keep safe keep kind BBVI strong

    • Mmm says:

Please people for God’s sake follow the guidelines. Seems like you are not aware of what is happening in the rest of the world.
People make noise about staying home so long. It you all were not staying home and children were in school every household would be infected. Thank God it isn’t so.
Many essential workers elsewhere have to wear masks for 8 hours straight. They are ok. The masks are breathable. I don’t think we breathe in the CO2.
Be safe and not sorry BVI. You doing good
