Customs seize over 7 pounds of weed concealed in fridge

File photo. Not the exact marijuana mentioned in the story

BVI News understands that Customs officers recently seized more than seven pounds of marijuana while conducting mandated checks at a local shipping company.

It’s unclear whether the drugs were set to be shipped out of the BVI or whether they were part of cargo that had just arrived in the territory. However, it’s understood that the drugs were carefully packed in boxes and placed in a refrigerator.

Our news centre was told that there were a total of two boxes but the total drugs was estimated to be just over three kilos.

It’s unclear whether the authorities have information about who the drugs belonged to and whether anyone has been held in connection with the find.

But the discovery comes amid a series of incidents that the territory has been experiencing because of the transhipment of illegal drugs. Since the start of the year, the territory has seen an uptick in violent crimes, which police say are mostly linked to the cocaine trade, which continues to entice many youngsters.

Although most incidents have been linked to the cocaine trade, the authorities do encounter packaged marijuana that culprits send through the postal system and the BVI ports as well.

Although there have been drug seizures, some residents believe that much more passes through the BVI on a daily basis due to the territory’s porous borders and inadequate officers to man the different ports of entry.

Utter rubish. Good job doing your job officers & customs but this need not be a part of your job.

Customs should be taxing imported weed heavily to encourage local production, AND they should be screening it for adulterants that will hook the population on pioson but oh wait I forgot

We are still waiting for the racist governmental system to assent to the Canabis act that ALL democratic law makers voted for YEARS AGO.

Remember not long ago that alcohol was illegal and was the bread and butter of the criminal world. Once it was legalized and licenced much of the criminal element fizzled away. Now everyone enjoys a glass or two, or more, of poison. It is socially accepted.

Here’s an idea: legalize marijuana and licence it so people can buy it at specific stores. The government will get a massive boost in revenue, it will open up business opportunities which creates jobs, users won’t have to give their honestly hard earned money to guys who shoot people, police can concentrate on the real thugs, and everyone is happy except for the violent criminals who will ultimately lose revenue and their footing in the community.

It’s a dried flower with a long list of medicinal benefits that could offer many people relief from their suffering or ailment. Yet society permits us all to drink poison, and we can drink as much of that as we like; until we drop dead.

    • Jim says:

Why do call alcohol poison, when it is made from natural ingredients?

      • @jim says:

Alcohol is poison because it has far to many negative effects and an overdose is very easy leading to drunkenness, lethal accidents, death from alcohol POISONING, and lethal withdrawal symptoms.

Now if we can tolerate all of that, and yes prohibition led to gangsters such as Al Capone, smugglers called bootleggers

now if we can tolerate all of that surely Cannabis which has never resulted in an over dose death should be a cake walk for our health services & community.

Id rather less people drink and go find something else to satisfy their needs of recreation, or healing from chemotherapy, depression & pain management

Great Post! The seizure of weed concealed in a fridge is a significant event that touches on issues related to law enforcement, smuggling tactics, drug policy, and international collaboration in the fight against illicit drug trade.

  18. ... says:

You know what is a significant event?

The governor not assenting to the Cannabis act 2020 that our legislators voted on democratically is a significant event that touches on issues related to

    1. the use of law enforcement to further age old racist agendas…

    2. Modern control tactics of the former slave masters…

    3. racist ‘drug’ policy of the former slave masters… the pills at the doctor have more lethal side effects!!!

    4. International conspiracy to collaboration in furtherance of controlling the masses of former slaves. Hence more black males in US jails than attending US colleges.

    5. The International conspiracy to ignore all science in favor of big pharma & racist prejudice.

    6. International conspiracy to lie to people about the dangers of natural medicine.
