Dean confirmed as BVIPA’s Acting Managing Director following premature announcement

Following a ‘premature’ media release in May announcing Dean Fahie as the new Acting Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA), the institution has now officially confirmed Fahie to the post.

In its latest media release dated July 24, the BVIPA said Cabinet approved the appointment of Fahie.

Fahie — who unsuccessfully contested the Eighth District seat for the Andrew Fahie-led Virgin Islands Party during the February 2019 General Elections — has been appointed to act in the post for an initial period of three months starting July 1.

Speaking on the appointment, Chairman of the BVIPA Kelvin Hodge said that Fahie will be very beneficial to the BVIPA especially during this period of transformation.

He said: “As we strive to transform the BVIPA through present and future expansion plans, he brings a wide array of knowledge, skills and experience in management and the maritime industry that will be invaluable during this challenging period.”

“The promotion of Mr Fahie at this juncture will aid in the regional growth and strengthening of our position in the cargo and cruise industry,” he added.

According to the aforementioned release, Fahie has been working with the BVIPA over the last six months as the Director of Operations.

“Fahie has [also] been part of implementing several new initiatives including the Board’s first-ever online booking porthole for both cruise and cargo ships and streamlining of operations at BVIPA,” the release added.
