Delta Petroleum acquired by Sunoco LP

Sunoco LP has taken control of Delta Petroleum in a deal that expands the company’s reach into the Virgin Islands market.

Word of the transaction emerged through a company letter seen by BVI News. The deal officially closed on April 1, 2026.

“We are pleased to share that Delta Petroleum has been acquired by Sunoco LP, Sol Petroleum’s parent company,” Sunoco stated in correspondence to customers from Sol Caribbean President, Roger Bryan.

The acquisition places Delta within a much larger global fuel distribution network. According to the company, the combined operation spans the Caribbean, Central and South America, the United States, Canada and Europe, distributing more than 15 billion gallons of fuel annually.

“This milestone marks an exciting new chapter for us and for you, our valued partner,” the letter stated.

With the acquisition, the company expects the transition to strengthen its operations locally while expanding its reach. According to the correspondence, Delta will now form part of “a broader, more diverse and stronger fuel industry leader” operating across the Caribbean, Central America, South America, the United States, Canada and Europe.

Customers were told to expect continuity of service. “Uninterrupted access to our reliable supply of high-quality products and services” will remain a priority, the letter stated.

The communication also highlighted operational benefits expected from the acquisition, including “enhanced strength and stability through the backing of a broader network and deep regional and global resources,” as well as expanded offerings across fuels, lubricants, and liquefied petroleum gas.

Despite the ownership change, Delta indicated that its immediate operations will remain unchanged. “For now, please continue with your usual contacts,” the company advised.

The company said updates to commercial structures or offerings will be communicated as the company moves forward in its new phase.

Sunoco LP, a major fuel distributor headquartered in the United States, operates an extensive logistics and retail network, while Sol Petroleum serves as a key regional player across the Caribbean.

“We’re confident this affiliation will serve you better and fuel mutual growth,” Bryan stated in the letter to customers.

I hope VIP Government ensures that Sunoco and Delta workers are properly compensated and does not allow them to get away with not doing so.

Surely this raises monopoly concerns concerning the supply of fuel in the BVI.

Usually when that happens prices rise because there is a captive market.

Has anyone looked at this issue?
