Discussions on local sports development come to forefront on Thursday

Standout young athletes in the British Virgin Islands

Representatives from the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement as well as the Virgin Islands Party and the National Democratic Party will be featured on public radio this Thursday for what is being said to be a two-hour special on the local sporting industry.

The names of the political representatives were not disclosed but local sports journalist Dean Greenaway said the programme will focus specifically on sports and development, sports tourism, funding, and facilities.

“Here, parties will have a chance to expound on their plans and their position on other areas of sports development including pari-mutuel [and] wagering,” Greenaway said.

“Sports and development has not been among the discussions leading up to the elections except hearing the ‘sports tourism’ buzzword … But, not much in the area of details have been forthcoming,” added Greenaway who is the host and producer of the programme.

The programme, which is dubbed the Sports Beat Magazine, was launched this month.

Its next airing is on CBN 90.9 FM at 7 pm.
