DMV hosting event for riders to get licensed, registered

Minister for Transportation Kye Rymer is appealing to motorcyclists in the territory to attend a licensing and registration drive scheduled for this weekend.

The event, which is a partnership between the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and Ultimate Vacation BVI Ltd is open to licensed and unlicensed riders of scooters and motorcycles as well as potential riders, who can take advantage of getting all legal documentation completed on the spot.

He said the February 22 event is open to licensed and unlicensed riders of scooters and motorcycles as well as potential riders.

“I encourage the parents of these riders as well to come and accompany their children because at the age of 16 you can ride a motorcycle, but I think education is lacking and this event we will be able to provide as much information as possible,” Rymer said in the House of Assembly.

Minister Rymer said an insurance agency will also be available at the event and said this will allow bikers to purchase insurance coverage to complement having their motorcycle or scooter licensed.

“With the increased usage of motorcycles and scooters on the roadway, safety and rider education is paramount. Therefore, educational fliers will be handed out during the event along with the administering of the written exams, rider’s skill test and as mentioned before, the registering and licensing these motorcycles,” the minister reasoned.

The event is being hosted behind the Ralph T O’Neal Administration Complex on Tortola and is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am.

Minister Rymer said the partnership is to ensure the success of the Ultimate Biker’s Run 2020 which is slated for March 29.

Who is going to check to see if some of these bikes are legit? Are they going to be licensing stolen bikes too?

Sounds like insurance is an option.

Inviting non insured bikes to participate on the roads? Sounds half baked. When there is an accident and damages are caused and an invite from Government to run the roads with no insurance for any second or minute duting a run is irresponsible. It is also contrary to the law thats on the books presently.
Who then is tasked to ensure safety, financial or medical recourse to riders and our residents who are not involved with run?

Maybe Government is going to foot the bill and have a blanket insurance policy to cover all registrants for the most probable issues that will absolutely arise during the run?

Registration amnesty for a specified amount of time I can understand, insurance amnesty puts every person on this island at risk.

These youths need a track with all of the following courses:
    – a circular rough course track for bikes
    – a outter or inner circular for cars and
    – in the middle a stretch for drag racing for cars and bikes
