Duo arrested for 2023 Long Look murder

Two men have been arrested following an extensive year-long investigation into the 2023 murder of Kemo Lettsome on Tortola.

The incident, which occurred on April 30 last year, saw the 37-year-old fatally shot at a family gathering near the Stickett in Long Look. Vernon Bernard, 32, from Manuel Reef, and Jelani Marquis, 28, from Hannah’s Estate, have been charged with the murder.

Their arrests represent a significant development in the case, bringing a semblance of hope and potential closure to the grieving family and the wider community. Both suspects were apprehended by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force’s (RVIPF) Major Incident Team.

On the day in question, Lettsome was among family and friends when he was targeted in a drive-by shooting and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Police Commissioner Mark Collins praised the relentless dedication and effort of the officers involved, highlighting their commitment to justice and community safety that has been crucial in reaching this critical stage of the investigation.

While the investigation is ongoing, the RVIPF expressed a commitment to gathering all necessary evidence and keeping the public informed, all the while maintaining the integrity of the ongoing investigation. The police also thanked the community for its support and cooperation during this difficult time.

They urged anyone with further information about this or other cases to come forward. The police assured confidentiality for those providing information, which can be done via the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-8477(TIPS) or the RVIPF Intelligence Department at 368-9339.

  8. How many times have they appeared in Court? says:

B charged re murder of Passion, theft at Pier Park and still on the street! M charged for stealing from his cousin, Pier Park, robbery, drug possession and also still on the street! When is the DPP going to start getting swift successful prosecutions.

  9. Sweep says:

DDP Goin 0-52 with this case here!

  10. ... says:

So wait these guys been through so much and they were still allowed to walk the streets like normal?

I used to be against this illegal gun thing but I really cant blame people for arming themselves with this failure of a system. Its like we let a lion back out into the bush and say to the community dont pick up a rock for protection.

Time to legalize fire arms if the court is going to let animals back onto the streets time & time again!
