Eileene Parsons: ‘People forget, Premier called for COI’

 Parsons

Former legislator Eileene Parsons has expressed concern about how the BVI was portrayed during the Commission of Inquiry (COI) hearings.

Appearing on the Talking Points radio show recently, Parsons said this was despite the fact that she wasn’t able to follow proceedings as closely as she may have wanted.

“I was told by a friend of mine – he used to be my Permanent Secretary, a very intelligent young man – he said ‘Miss P, those people came from England with questions to which they already had the answers, but they only came for confirmation’,” Parsons related.

Parsons also related that she was particularly moved when the COI asked for additional time to complete its task.

“It meant that they found something that they needed to work with, we don’t know, we don’t know what…” Parsons stated.

She continued: “Honestly, I know this is all over the air, but I have to say it. People seem to forget that it is the current Premier who was calling for a Commission of Inquiry for years. For years. For years he was calling for a commission.”

“It looked like they didn’t find anything to warrant a commission [back then], but things came up and the commission was called on us. The first time we have ever had something like that. We have never been in this kind of position before,” she added.

Fahie admits COI request, but denies repeated trips

Meanwhile, Premier Andrew Fahie, while admitting that he previously called on former governor Augustus Jaspert to open a Commission of Inquiry into various alleged ‘excesses’ of the former National Democratic Party (NDP) government, vehemently denied that he had ever requested anything as extensive as what obtained with the recent 15-month long COI.

“I went down — I’m not ashamed to say it. I said it in the COI. I went down to go get a COI to see what had happened in the ports project,” Premier Fahie said while making it clear that the COI he wanted was for one specific thing.

“I didn’t go down there asking for no COI on no entire government,” he said in the House of Assembly late last year.

Premier Fahie said he was told by the former governor at the time that COIs don’t reveal anything and were expensive.

“[Jaspert] said I’ll be wasting money; all that I was told. And Iris’ (the Premier’s mom) boy left from there and I had never come back. I tell he you’ll never see me there around again asking for nothing at all, at all, at all since you tell me that,” the Premier said.

“I heard the man (Jaspert) there saying that I was coming frequently. Well, I don’t know, there must be a clone of me somehow,” the Premier sarcastically stated.

  1. Did he? says:

Did he call for it or did he accept the inevitable to avoid being bulldozed? Could he have rejected and at what political cost? Are we the populace not also complicit in the spirit of things? Who asked is not the point. The point is it was done in the name of protecting and informing the electorate from and of the ills of a wayward government so I and the rest of the electorate SHOULD be given a FULL copy to peruse and decide. We need to decide on our cognition not the voices of the players. THAT IS THE POINT!

The article above, this article to which you are responding, clearly states that Andrew admits to requesting a COI.
He disagrees with the amount of trips that some have claimed he made to the Governor’s office beseeching the Governor for a COI.

    • Poli.Farmer says:

Ms Parsons it DOES NOT MATTER WHOM CALLED FOR THE COI!

The real matter at hand is THE WAY IN WHICH GOVERNOR GUS ISSUED THIS COI ONTO THESE VIRGIN ISLANDS!

It does matter who asked, Andrew asked. He lit the fire and it blew up in his face. Andrew thought that the COI was only going to focus on the NDP’s perimeter fence, the Pier Park and missing plane. He did not see this far down the road, the wind shifted with the gasoline he threw and it’s now all in this face !!

Who asked is important because he is now pushing the racism and takeover agenda as if this came out of no where. If you all premier wasn’t so petty and childish we would not have been here. He called the NDP the most corrupted government and tried digging a grave for them, forgetting to dig one for his dam self!!! You all so blind to the man and his BS it’s disgusting!! Nothing came out of the wall or the bad plane deal. But look at all we have unconverted about your unconventional government! Go figure!

All of a sudden tis the port project he wanted COI for? He call down heaven about a $1m wall that turns out was nothing wrong with. He bawl bloody murder for a $7m plane that turns out was just a very bad business decision by the then Premier..nothing corrupt. Meanwhile he take $20m and give to his friends and political cronies with little justification. He paid Chalwell barges several million dollars even though the entire Security Council was against it. He appointed all of his unqualified political pundits to all of the Board’s so he could control them. He hired his unqualified puppets as Directors on the boards to do his bidding. He paid the Cruzan guy $80k a month for 24hr security he didn’t need when RVIPF was right there to provide security for free. He hired the wig wearer who then turn around and cost the BVI people millions of dollars in court fees against Mark Vanterpool and now against the COI. He gave CSC a bunch of consultancy contracts of nearly $2m and have nothing to show for it.

Anyone see Ronnie anywhere because he would be the one pvim at large and the one who should head the collision government and we want a few more women in there. We are not playing out here a good 6 or 8 of them would do. Get a woman in district 9. Let us break up this party regime for a while and let us get to work in fixing our territory.
