Elected leaders reportedly in favour of resolving issues with ZBVI

Opposition Leader Marlon Penn has given the assurance that elected leaders are in favour of resolving the issues that resulted in ZBVI Radio no longer carrying live broadcasts of legislative proceedings.

Penn said lawmakers have already discussed the matter and efforts are underway to have the longstanding broadcasts restored.

“I think every member in the House is of the position that it should,” Penn said during a recent appearance on the Talking Points radio programme.

The issue surfaced publicly in July when residents tuning in to ZBVI for the July 21 House sitting discovered that the usual broadcast was unavailable. Instead, Speaker Corine Georges-Massicote directed listeners to ZVCR 106.9 FM and the House’s YouTube stream.

No official explanation was given at the time for the change.

Penn said he raised the issue directly with the Speaker after learning about it and subsequently participated in discussions aimed at finding a solution.

In addition to the legislative broadcasts, ZBVI has played a wider role in keeping residents informed during hurricanes, elections and other major events. Following the death of ZBVI founder Merrit Herbert in 2017, then-Premier Dr Orlando Smith highlighted the station’s longstanding role in providing information during hurricanes and House meetings.

Talking Points host Damion Grange argued that the change of the House’s longstanding broadcast platorm could particularly affect seniors who have traditionally relied on ZBVI. However, Penn declined to reveal what caused the dispute, describing some of the circumstances as “personal and sensitive”.

However, he rejected suggestions that elected members were divided over restoring the broadcasts.

“All the members were concerned,” Penn said, adding that the matter “can be fixed” and that the Premier and the House intend to resolve it.

This is w doing as adviser to shut out opposition from reaching the people over zbvi, just like he sensor blogs against the VIP in his yellow site paper, they don’t want to give prominent voices like Myron air play or any opposition to vip and natalio. When they get independence they will control the media like corrupt leaders in Dominica and Antigua and other example of crooked leaders do, w am glad you became adviser so you can sink vip and natalio in quick sand so they are more unpopular and the voters role up to vote them out of office.

Strupes. Simple problem with a simple fix. So that means they didnt want it for whatever reason. And I think that’s shameful bc this is culturally how the community has been informed for decades. The elderly are not tech savy and we are operating on the foundation of their years of service and contributions. To disrespect them the way that they have been ignored and marginalized is absolutely shameful.

  8. Why says:

This doesn’t need to involve anyone. the government should have a stream and if a radio station wants to pick it up and broadcast it that’s their business. Is it a matter of a contract and ZVCR got it? Well then that’s something different and if ZBVI wants to complain about it, it shouldn’t need to involve ministers.
