Election projects have lost their effect, says Parillon

National Democratic Party (NDP) hopeful Aaron Parillon has argued that voters are no longer easily swayed by last-minute infrastructure projects that tend to appear as elections draw near.

Parillon made the remarks during a recent appearance on the Talking Points radio programme after hosts Damion Grange and Elvin Smith questioned him about the numerous road improvement projects that have recently commenced across the territory, including in his own district.

Asked whether the timing of the projects concerned him, Parillon said the pattern was nothing new and reflected a long-standing political strategy that he believes is losing its effectiveness.

“If I’m going to be very honest, even though I am aspiring to lead in this country, it is something that really boils my blood,” Parillon said. He argued that residents are often left to suffer through years of unresolved issues before governments rush to complete projects as election season approaches.

“We let the people suffer for 3.5 years knowing the fact that these things need to be done, but then we throw wool over all people’s eyes and then jump and start doing these projects and we confuse the people, we put them in all sorts of compromising positions,” he stated.

When host Damion Grange questioned whether the rollout of election projects was a smart political strategy, Parillon acknowledged that it may have worked in the past but said today’s electorate is far more informed.

“It was smart in the past, it was a very effective political ploy in the past, but time has changed,” he said. “People are much more educated, people are much more engaged, and have much more access to information.”

In the meantime, Parillon contended that instead of rushed projects before a general election, governments should focus on maintaining infrastructure consistently. He argued that tourism would also benefit from the consistent upkeep of infrastructure and other public assets, such as historical sites.

“It doesn’t matter how many ships you bring into the country,” he said. “If the people are going to see a country in disarray, dusty, bush not being trimmed, certain aspects of your historical sites not beautified, it says a lot.”

let me tell you who Pari was as a teacher. i saw a young man that became one of the best well rounded male figures in the entire teaching profession. Many other teachers and parents will attest to this also. I saw a man that made sure every school year he would ask for the less fortunate boys and girls to be in his class as he was one of the few teachers that got through to them. I saw a man that garnered the respect of every student no matter the grade level when he entered their classroom. When teachers found difficulty dealing with certain students, Call Pari.
Parillon had a great working relationship with us teachers as we loved him because he was very smart, very respectful, loving, kind hearted, hilarious, knew how to lift a room, God fearing, protective and an exceptional Male role model.
If Pari decided today he wants to become a teacher again, without a second thought, the Ministry of Education will hire him one time.

When he decided to run for politics, I told him i was scared because it is a nasty game but he has continued to show us why he deserves to be a leader because he never changes who he is.

To those trying to tear down Pari, you are wrong for doing it and jealous of this mans success.

keep the pressure on em Pari as God is on your side.

I listened to him and had to laugh because he is correct. Usually you’d hear aspiring leaders walk around this topic but He has been the most honest about this with great humility. Can only respect a man for his honesty.

After all the hard work, the community projects, the never giving up, the persistence all year round, how is he just a number? You know what it means to be just a number? You show up during election season then gone again after. Or you turn yourself over to the party you spoke against for years just to get a position. Just pure nonsense being recycled. @To be honest I think you missed what he is saying, about the road being fixed he is talking about timing. Everyone can see that the road works is been done by people who doesn’t know what they are doing, I gust the more money you save on the road works, the more money you have to party. I know Aaron Parillon and find him to be a good stand up person.

Don’t put that type of energy on this brother. Unlike the others he seems like the only stand up no nonsense straight forward guy running for politics. He’s been consistent in his statements and actions. He hasn’t taken any bribes from government officials or parties trying to sway him. I believe he’s the best candidate for the position.

Watch the Premier bout he doing big concert in Long Look under the guise of our 250th but really he is using taxpayers money to campaign in his district. The party premier continues to defend his party spending.

You all elected Sharie and she is young. She bamboozled you all with her poetry after she had proven that she was not committed to our youths by abandoning her students. She was made minister of education and took the education system down the sewer
I absolutely believe that Aaron will do a far better job that Sharie DeCastro. He’s not half as petty or immature. Give the young man a chance to prove himself. You all voted for Sharie twice and she does not have much to show for your votes. Ask the teachers what a mess the system is but she’s steady travelling with her travel and bully buddy.
