Embarrassing! Appeals made for Trellis Bay entry port facility

Eighth District Representative Marlon Penn said he had these designs for a new port facility at Trellis Bay done from personal funds.

A stakeholder has pleaded with Eighth District Representative Marlon Penn that the Trellis Bay ferry dock is in dire need of an accommodation facility for waiting passengers.

“At the Trellis Bay, we have a lot of passengers travelling to the different cays as well as to the sister islands. There is no accommodation there for people in terms of passengers being left out in the open and exposed to all the elements,” the stakeholder complained as a caller on the NDP radio programme recently.

The caller said that a shed had been there previously but this was inadequate and had been knocked away during hurricane Irma several years ago.

According to the resident, it was very important that the territory’s ports of entry have suitable accommodation for passengers, especially since there are both international tourists and local visitors who use the area.

“We need a solid structure there with integrity that can withstand hurricanes,” he added.

The resident said passengers are forced to be seated under the trees in the area and said there were also no bathroom facilities in place.

He asserted that the situation was embarrassing.

Responding to the complaints, Penn said he had previously done designs for a new facility for the Trellis Bay area and secured these through his own personal funding from an architect in his district.

The Opposition Leader said the plans included a visitor centre, restroom facility and all necessary amenities needed for travellers.

According to Penn, he took the designs to BVI Tourist Board (BVITB) where there were several discussions with the BVITB’s new Director and the Junior Minister at the time, Shereen Flax Charles.

“I have done the legwork to get that project moving. We haven’t gotten funding either from the Tourist Board or from the government to execute that project,“ Penn stated.

Government and BVITB seriously needs focus on the whole #BVILOVE CAMPAIGN! What is the point of the BVILOVE campaign when we have a ferry welcome terminal that looks like a hog pen!!!!

That ferry terminal has nothing to do with the nearby businesses; it ks one of the main hubs for the workforce and while travelling to Virgin Gorda.

How is it acceptable for locals and visitors to utilize???

It certainly needs a place to shelter people, including the workforce, from the rains and the inclement sun and, above all, bathrooms so as not to have to relieve themselves in the surroundings.

  15. Trellis says:

RDA cleaned up all the wrecked Irma yachts so governments job is finished there. If you want a building for the private ferry passengers then just build it yourself.

  16. Hmm says:

Many were making noise when someone asked for a shelter there some weeks ago. There was a nice little glass building there but irma went with it. The foundation is still there something can be rebuild on the foundation already there. It had no restroom just a building for rain or sun.

  17. Hmm says:

The government have a dock there where an old boat is docked for months now hampering those who want to off load stuff.

  18. VI Gyal says:

This has been a project for BVITB but it is not important to them. We complained there was no seating, they brought them rusty seating, no tent.
We complained no shelter and then we get a tent…wind gone with it, only the frame was there.
Begged TB put back a cover.
Do not blame Marlon as it is not something to come out of the district budget. He has begged and pleaded along with other people. When you guys understand protocols and politics then come and blog. From blogging s**t.

  19. Time Will Tell says:

So how does an airport runway extension affect this grand plan with these small sheds. I point blank don’t like it. Its too small and the design wastes space…..sigh

  20. Born here says:

There nothing better for us to invest in right now!!!!!!!Our youths are being forced into a life a crime just to survive but let make the place pretty for the tourist who may get robbed due to the neglect of more pressing issues. For example lack of price control rent proper schools proper roads proper hospital airport stations without mold thats killing out public servants. Hospital not paying on time giving staff 40 cents raise. Increment made news but ain’t finish pay out yet

  21. Save the BVI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! says:

Crime is on the rise because our poverty rate has also risen. These tourists you so worried about will get robbed. Stop talking shit and use the money belonging to the people who live and work in this country wisely how about you make it more comfortable for the people living here and we can clearly see the personal interest. There are more pressing issues ALL public offices including the airport still has mold our public servants are dying in these buildings. Price control RENT what have you done for the youths or the elderly population. Y’all too comfortable on top that’s why y’all can worry about Shit while lower class struggle like 3rd world country
