Ex-convict charged in stabbing incident

A 43-year-old former inmate, Wakima Lettsome, now faces serious charges after a stabbing in Road Town.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) alleged that Lettsome stabbed a man on August 8 2025, and said the victim remains in critical condition in the hospital.

Police reportedly acted swiftly and arrested Lettsome shortly after the incident. He faces charges of Wounding with Intent and Common Assault and remains held in custody pending his next court date.

Acting Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool said the RVIPF takes acts of violence in our community “extremely seriously”. She added, “The quick apprehension of the suspect demonstrates our commitment to ensuring the safety of our residents and visitors. We will not relent in bringing offenders to justice, and we continue to urge anyone with information to speak with us.”

Anyone with information that could assist is urged to call the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 284-368-9339 or share details anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS).

Lettsome was previously sentenced in February 2013 to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of wounding with intent for a 2011 shooting incident. In May 2017, he was part of the first cohort to complete a Skill for Life rehabilitative course at Her Majesty’s Prison. It is not immediately clear when he was released from prison.

Earlier incidents show a history of violent behaviour. In 2015, while still incarcerated, Lettsome faced charges for allegedly stabbing a prison guard and assaulting officers. As an inmate in 2013, he was stabbed with an ice pick by another inmate, treated at Peebles Hospital, and later returned to custody.

This does not mean the Police service is in better hands with Jackie V. It means that he knew at that moment he plucked up and he is going to jail. Even if he ran he would be caught fairly quickly. So big man back to the can you go!

    • @Police says:

If he knew he was going to be apprehended very quickly, does that not imply that effective criminal policing management was in place prior to?

It can be asumed then, that the force, according to your implications, that another woman other than Jackie would have done a better job.

Or then, a Briish white man would place the force in better hands.

Your comment reeks with hidden discrimination for Jackie and even racialisms, iven the historic truths about who and what kind of oficers were privilege in the past to hold that position.

Appears it could be one of those retired UK man?

  3. Why was this man released from prison before he served his full time? says:

This is a man who was convicted of a serious crime in the past. He was reportedly sentenced to 20 years in jail. Somehow he was released it appears after serving half that time. Now, here he is being accused of committing a similarly serious violent crime.

Why was he released prior to completing his full 20 year sentence? Why did the prison system release this violent man back into society before he did his time?

This society is filled with people who are too sympathetic to criminals inclusive of the former Premier sitting in federal lockup in Georgia for conspiring to import drugs into the United States.

A man whom a current HOA Legislator thinks would have done a better job for the country ignoring the fact that he is a criminal who has damaged this country’s reputation far beyond our shores.

A man who attempted to enrich himself in the process. A man who sold out his country for the price of drugs. He deserves to be where he currently sits.

That sympathy among so many expands to the prison system whereby politicians who cannot attend their duties in the House of Assembly somehow find time to go up to Balsum Ghut to cuddle these criminals and hand out certificates and get their photo ops. Meanwhile they forgot or overlooking why these people are in prison in the very first place.

My message to those responsible for letting these criminals back on the street before they complete their full sentences is this:

Screen these people carefully before you let them out, especially those that have a violent past. Do not release these people back into society without very careful consideration of not only their crime but documented improvement in their behavior over the course of their incarcerations.

If someone gets hurts when you release these people back on the streets prematurely, I wholeheartedly believe civil action against the prison if warranted particularly if someone is injured/killed by one of these criminals who has been released prematurely.

Stop endangering the public with known violent criminals by setting them free before their court ordered sentence is completed. They were sent to prison for a reason. They committed crimes warranting a custodial sentence. Unless you know they have a low chance to re-offend, leave them where they are.

I hope the person who was injured by this man pulls thru.
