Face-to-face classes at VISTS off to a great start! Others to reopen soon

Education Minister Dr Natalio Wheatley said he is quite pleased by the safety measures that are being taken by the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies (VISTS) which recently reopened for in-person classes.

“I have to say that I was impressed with the measures that they took for sanitation and social distancing. I think they were able to successfully restart school, and based on what I am hearing, it is going well,” Dr Wheatley said in an interview with BVI News this week.

The minister said the success of the VISTS will impact the reopening of other schools across the territory.

“We can expect that other schools will reopen and I will be making a speech shortly on that topic,” Dr Whealtey stated.

The government approved face-to-face learning for some students in the BVI on September 18, once they’ve been inspected by the Social Distance Monitoring Task Force and approved by the Ministry of Education.

At that time, Dr Natalio Wheatley had said schools will not be allowed to reopen if they don’t adhere to the measures outlined in the Public Health COVID-19 Control & Suppression Order.

I love this school. It was good that this institution was put in place for our young people. Good job with this one NDP.

3 weeks ago the Premier jumped up and said schools will be opened next week. To date, we still wait for schools to be re-opened. The premier is so quick to respond instead of thinking things out rationally, putting a plan together then respond. This is our PETTY PREMIER. Sheep gathered all the bar and club owners, held meetings on top of meetings. Since the re-opening of these establishments fights, chopping’s, disruptiveness, and the list goes on. VIP has no plan, just like they have no plan for December 1.

VIP must go! Can’t wait for election.

Does it really make sense at this point? November is next week and then Christmas Break is right there. Why put parents though the stress now of getting school clothes etc. when they already spent on electronics for online schooling? This Minister is a failure and have people wasting money on foolishness.

Sheep was strictly behind the bars and strip clubs reopening, how come he is not so vocal on the schools reopening? Where is he now?
