Fahie lauded for role in Frenchman’s Cay Bridge reconstruction

The new Frenchman’s Cay Bridge.

First District Representative and former Premier, Andrew Fahie was lauded for his efforts in getting works started on the Frenchman’s Cay Bridge which officially opened earlier today.

In an address to those gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Works Minister Kye Rymer encouraged attendees to give a round of applause to the First District Representative.

“He [Fahie] made sure he went through the rules, the right channels, and the proper procedures to ensure this bridge was done and done correctly. As I said, the funds were allocated for a bridge in Huntum’s Ghut to be repaired and we moved that fund so we can do this bridge as safety is of the utmost importance. I just want the residents of this area to know they are getting a first-class and well-constructed bridge. I know I have gotten requests for what will be done with the temporary bridge, but we will have that discussion a little more,” Rymer said.

Territorial At-Large Representative Carvin Malone also gave credit to Fahie for his role in the bridge’s completion.

“The residents have taken a lot. The bridge was deplorable, but Honourable Fahie made sure that he pressed and pressed. Because of the businesses here, without the businesses here I don’t think Frenchman Cay is complete. So, I would like to say thanks to businesspersons who have endured but this will have an addition in terms of safety and structure for the particular area,” Malone said.

One resident, who gave his name as Alfredo Delril expressed his excitement for the bridge as it was set to improve the lives of the people in the area.

“We are very glad about this bridge. All the time, every day, every moment. We are sorry that Mr Andrew Fahie is not here, but everything is going alright for the time being. Thank you, thank you,” the Frenchman’s Cay resident said.

Meanwhile, Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley said the residents of Frenchman’s Cay had a need and the government was able to deliver the bridge to the people.

“Certainly, when the Government of National Unity came in, we could say we are not going to continue with it, we are not going to push it to completion and that would not be in the best interest of Frenchman’s Cay and the residents of District One and certainly we push forward and continue, in the same way, we will push forward and continue with the West End Ferry Terminal,” the Premier stated.

Minister for Tourism Sharie DeCastro said the bridge was a long time coming and she was happy to witness the project completion.

In the meantime, Quality Constructions, the contractor for the project, said the company was all about connecting people and building relationships. He added that the bridge is the ultimate representation of relationship-building as it joined Tortola and Frenchman Cay.

Andrew must have thought the new bridge would help with drug running and money laundering. Probably right. That area been in the news before re drugs. Let’s give him a big thumbs up and pat on the back. Wtf. What these ministers doing giving Andrew Fahie big up??? No end to the support for corruption in the BVI!!!! This old set know no other way. Give the country back to honest people. The UK can do this despite all the colonialist crap talk, when you have black people lining up to be PM. Big that up.

Please, since when you have to laud someone for doing their job? That is what Mr. Fahie signed up for, to represent the people of the First District. One bridge down, several others to go. Looks like the first major project done in the First in three and a half years.

  17. WHAT??? says:

Still, our elected officials are expecting a pat on the back every time they do the things they are supposed to be doing. None of this is magic, none of this is special. Especially not “…through the rules, the right channels, and the proper procedures..”. That is how you are supposed to do the job you asked for, and the job you are getting paid for. This is not clever, outstanding or unusual. FFS and it certainly doesn’t warrant a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a press conference every time you do your damn job. Grow the f**k up or get the f**k out.

Schools in deplorable state ( from the outside to the inside),
Some Hard working public officers getting abused with
More and more assignments while other public officers like the arrested premier get bigups for doing their damn
Jobs once in a blue moon while for the majority of
The year they are not doing the people’s work but
Dealing with their own businesses and oh, let us not forget
The government seems to have overlooked the medical services here are reason enough to give them a FAILING GRADE! Did any of you read the FB post last week from Anegada? People get sick or in an accident and there is no proper system in place to get a patient to hospital in a timely manner. After midnight a ferry came to transport a senior citizen more than 5 or 6 hours after getting to the Anegada clinic. People walking around Road Town begging for money and Govt officials drive past them everyday and nothing in place for mentally challenged, old people who need homecare on Sister Islands and a proper, comfortable housing facility for our Senior Citizens. Cutting ribbons and looking for reason to celebrate yourselves? Take 3 seats? How can we the common citizens speak to the Governor one on one? Fed up now!

Now the fast boats have a way to escape pursuit under the bridge. I give credit to the Fat Boy for having planned this out so well. Maybe he can ask for a tollgate under the bridge to pay for his lawyers.

  35. VI Gyal says:

I ain’t giving him no praises for his elected duty. He represented the district for over 20 years and now I must give him the glory for making this happen…he will wait. He also had to take funds budgeted for another district project to make it happen.

I recall 8th district provided funds to the Pier park and that was big noise.
We the people let HIm, Andrew do what he wanted for years as though he was a Saviour. He is not the same person we saw or knew before he was Premier and while playing avid role in church. His heart cold.

    so miss me with this!

  37. @ W.E. Man says:

It does look like the ministers do suffer from defective eyesight. Since Irma the street lights from Pockwood Pond to Fort Recovery been out. None of them working in those areas and up to now it is pitch black in those area in the night.

  38. Distraction says:

It seems Mr. Rymer is forgetting the magnitude of Mr. Fahie’s alleged crimes. Or maybe he wants us to forget.

My Rymer himself was given positive ratings early on, but it is clear now that he too needs to go.
