Family man and friend: Mouners say final farewell
Though he was laid to rest weeks ago in his native land, scores of mourners, including parliamentary officials, still gathered at the Sea Cow’s Bay Methodist Church yesterday to pay last respects to one of the territory’s oldest media pioneers, Merritts Herbert.
Persons hailed the radio icon as good businessman and an even better family man.
During the touching funeral service, the late native of St Kitts and Nevis was also described as a kind-hearted soul.
His daughter Delker Vardilos delivered the eulogy.
The funeral service, in the meantime, was attended by government officials such as Premier Dr D Orlando Smith.
Following the service, Opposition Leader Andrew Fahie took to social media to pay further tribute to the widely-respected Herbert.
He described Herbert as “a friend, a trailblazer, a father, but most importantly a child of God.”
“May the soul of this great man rest in peace,” Fahie said.
Herbert, who was the owner of ZBVI radio, died on September 23.
Hehis survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
