Scores of residents, young and old, from the four corners of the Virgin Islands turned out on Friday, February 2, to bid farewell to the late former legislator Carvin Malone, who departed in January.

The celebratory event was well attended by dignitaries from the USVI and BVI, as well as officials from various non-governmental organisations and religious groups that were all touched by Malone’s service and passion for community.

Performers paid tributes in song, poems, speeches and instrumental performances as they thanked the late businessman for his activism, patriotism and leadership — especially when he led the territory through the COVID pandemic during his tenure as Health Minister.

“His leadership and drive to see the BVI advance will be sorely missed. His hope would be that someone would answer the call to take up the mantle to run the race towards self-determination for the Virgin Islands with dedication, patience, wisdom and a commitment to the very end,” said his brother Meade Malone in a tribute.

Though he will not get to see the next phase of the BVI’s political advancement, Malone’s grand send-off is a testament that the true Virgin Islands spirit lives on and is ready to be harnessed for the territory’s bright and inevitable future.
