Festival Committee teases Emancipation Festival lineup
The Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee has begun rolling out the entertainment lineup for the 2026 Emancipation Festival, with several regional artistes already confirmed as part of an early promotional push.
Chairperson Natalie Penn Lake told ZBVI radio that the committee’s ability to announce performers months in advance reflects a shift towards earlier planning, which began in late 2025.
“We have already started planning the Emancipation Festival since last year, October. We rallied the team together, and we’ve been in several meetings planning the Emancipation Festival,” Penn Lake stated.
She added that the confirmed acts were secured months ago but were held back from public release until after the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival, which was held last weekend. “And the artists that you see dropping, they were already booked from January. We were just waiting for the Easter Festival to be completed to start to do some promotions around it,” she explained.
Among the first names announced are Popcaan, Beres Hammond, Nadia Batson and 450. Additional acts revealed later include Sizzla, R City and Problem Child, with organisers indicating that more announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
Penn Lake said the early release of information is aimed at strengthening the territory’s competitiveness during a busy regional festival season. “The promotion helps to bring the economy up to a certain level because people need time to book whether they want to come to the BVI… because everybody is having their festivals or carnivals at the same time,” she said.
She added, “In order to beat the competition, you have to be ahead of the competition,” noting that early announcements give potential visitors time to make travel decisions.
The chairperson also pointed to ongoing marketing efforts by the BVI Tourist Board to support the festival’s reach. “BVI Tourist Board is doing a great job as it relates to the marketing aspect of our festivals across the UK, the North Americans and the Canadians,” Penn Lake stated.
She expressed hope that the festival would attract both residents and members of the diaspora. “It is our hope that people abroad, people who haven’t been home in years, would decide to come home,” she added.
The 2026 Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival is scheduled to run from July 25 to August 8, with organisers promising additional artiste announcements as preparations continue.

Of course … then election right after.
Anyone else dealing with horrendous service from FLOW? No, or partially no internet for 6 days. No help, don’t care, TRC missing. Standard operating procedures here. Most expensive internet, worst possible services.
BVI News .. pay attention. Find out what Flow and TRC are doing.
@ Attention.
Cable & Wireless service is no better elsewhere in the region. Rather than improving their product, they are more concerned about hiding their failings behind silly name changes: first “Lime” and now “Flow”.
It’s ironic that Virgin Islanders place significance on “I Born Here”, yet when it comes to celebrating their own history, they prefer that Tom, Dick and Harry from elsewhere do it on their behalf.
If I’m not mistaken I’m pretty sure last years festival had an entire night of just local talent.
i gon ask the important question…

Just asking after the brass bands from US Virgin Islands. This peep show only showcasing Jagons with the exception of Rock City. With all due respect if BVI/USVI entertainers are selected, it will benefit as a contribution to the economy due to the money being spent and circulated within the Territory. I am just saying! ♀️ ♂️ ♀️
I am sorry but i am very disappointed. We chose to promote and hype 4 Jamaican artists as the launch of our CULTURAL festival? What is wrong with us Virgin Islanders? Rock City is all good and well but Shaw HP, Dante, Xtreme ft Harella and Onyan, Jougo, Showtime reunited, Ritical, Iyaz, Melanie Amaro, Ouida, Rena son, Razor Blades, Lashing Dogs, Pumpa, Grand Masters, and so many more local and USVI and regional artists whose culture more align with our own. I love Beres and Popcaan. I just learned 450 music and it is ok. But let that be a private promoter’s show or CGB fest or something. We are selling out our culture for economic gain year after year. What is the purpose of the new department of Culture? Preserve our culture on our biggest cultural stage please! Why are we up and down trying to compete with other countries carnivals? Do we have such little pride in ourselves? We bow down to a few repetitive characters posting on social media? Keyboard warriors who more than half of them barely halfway from the VI to begin with! Virgin Islanders stand up!
